It’s one of the most beautiful states in the US, and probably my favorite to hike and road trip. I’ve broken this itinerary down into five of WA’s more spectacular areas (see map in intro for reference), with some of the more scenic places that I’d recommend checking out in each. A: Alpine Lakes Wilderness🏕️ -Colchuck Lake -Snow Lake -Lake Ingalls -Keekwulee Falls B: North Cascades National Park🌲 -Diablo Lake -Maple Pass -Cascade Pass -Sahale Glacier Camp B1: Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest🌿 -Picture Lake -Chain Lakes Loop -Franklin Falls -Artist Point C: Olympic National Park🏞️ -Rialto Beach -Ruby Beach -Mount Storm King -Hoh Rainforest (Expect to re-open in May) D: Mount Rainier National Park🏔 -Skyline Trail -Fremont Fire Tower -Sunrise Point -Tipsoo Lake Any one of these areas makes for an awesome trip in itself, or you can do them all in one epic 2-4 week road trip. It’s about 16+ hours of total driving time to hit them all. This trip is best done in the summertime, so definitely add it to your 2025 travel list. 10-Day Washington State Itinerary - Summer Edition 🌞⛰️🌲🪵 Mount Rainier National Park 🌋 Day 1: Drive to Paradise and hike the Skyline Trail—the views are unreal. Don’t forget to stop by Myrtle Falls! Best places to stay? Ashford, WA. Day 2: Head to Sunrise, the highest point in the park you can drive to. Hike to Fremont Lookout. Alpine Lakes Wilderness & Leavenworth ⛰️💦 Day 3: Road trip to Leavenworth—aka a cute Bavarian-style mountain town that looks straight out of a fairytale. Book your stay on Expedia! Day 4: Hike to Colchuck Lake (9 miles round trip) one of the prettiest hikes in the U.S.! North Cascades & Mount Baker Area 🐻 Day 5: Drive to Artist Point (about 4 hours from Leavenworth). Stay in Deming. Day 6: Start the day with the Chain Lakes Loop hike (7 miles)—In the afternoon, drive to Diablo Lake. You can camp at Colonial Creek Campground or stay in Concrete or Mazama. Day 7: Hike Maple Pass Loop (7.4 miles), one of Washington’s most stunning trails. After the hike, drive to Port Angeles (about 3.5 hours). This is a great base to explore Olympic National Park. Olympic National Park 🌳🍃 Day 8: Hit up Lake Crescent and hike to Marymere Falls (easy) or Mt. Storm King (hard but totally worth it). Catch the sunset at Second Beach. Day 9: Explore the Hoh Rainforest (double-check if the road is open). Walk the Hall of Mosses Trail and then wrap up the day with sunset at Rialto Beach. Seattle 🌅 Day 10: Check out the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and the waterfront. End the trip with dinner at The Nest.
