Ok yeah… I’m officially DONE changing out nasty chicken water a million times a day 🫠 So today we’re making an automatic waterer using a @loweshomeimprovement bucket, @lil.clucker water cups, and my @makitatools drill …and it took maybe 5 minutes🙌🏼 Don’t forget to follow for more backyard chicken content and tips! ⭐️Bonus tip: add 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar per gallon of water (acv with the “mother”) Here’s why: • Supports digestion & gut health • Boosts immunity • Helps reduce algae in the waterer • Improves feather quality • May reduce risk of parasites like coccidiosis • Natural respiratory support But NEVER use ACV in a metal container… it can cause toxic metal leaching. Stick to plastic or glass! This DIY automatic waterer was so easy! I was so tired of dirty 💩 water or refilling the chicken waterer EVERY day!! So I went on the hunt on my local FB marketplace for a large barrel or container that was food grade safe and strong enough! Found a guy selling a bunch of different ones! I decided on a 55 gallon olive container with a wide lid that twisted off and had handle spots on the side to carry. Bought it for $30. Then went on Amazon and purchased a pack of 15 waterer nipples for $14. I got a pack a little more expensive so I didn’t have leaking issues. They have been GREAT! Winter hits with freezing temps and your chicken’s waterer is frozen solid, leaving you to give your chickens fresh water every day. 💡What if I told you there’s another option?! 🐥 This is what we’re doing for our chicken waterer this winter so we don’t have to bucket fresh water every single day. This 5 gallon bucket lasts our girls a week and a half! You can find more details about our year round chicken waterer in my video called ✨Things in our chicken run/coop that just make sense✨ ⛏️With easy installation, the de-icer rests at the bottom of the waterer, keeping the water at the bottom from ever freezing. Meaning our girls will have fresh water all winter long with minimal effort on our end. Some people use heated dog bowls, which is a good solution too, but chickens aren’t the brightest and are messy, so this requires more supervision and maintenance. We wanted to utilize the waterer we already had, so this Multi-Use Utility De-Icer was the perfect choice!
