You can’t fix narcissists. Soooo often we use all of our mental energy trying to do mental gymnastics to figure out ways we can make that person “better” or “not a narcissist.” That will ALWAYS be a waste of energy. Narcissists are never (EVER) interested in “fixing” their behaviors. They want what they want when they want it, and they’ll do whatever they can to get it. If you have a narcissist in your life, the first step is to accept it. The next step is to use your energy to figure out how you want to handle that truth: ✅ do you want an exit strategy? (No contact is usually the best plan.) ✅ do you want to set boundaries with how much access they have to you? ✅ do you want to lower your expectations and realize they’re never going to be a 50% partner in the relationship? We love what this woman is distinguishing. “Boundaries” have become generalized to mean “anything that I don’t like happening” and while we have every right to control what WE do, we don’t have that right to control the behavior of others. Does that stop us from TRYING? Nope. Lol. Consider that we are often looking to control the behavior of others, sometimes subtly and sometimes overtly, either because we think we know better or simply because we want what we want or we’re trying to assert control over our environment. In any case, we use the word “boundaries” as a trump card or trigger to get people to do what we want them to do. We weaponize our “boundaries” to control others behavior and that’s not a boundary. When we use the word “boundary” in this way, we actually weaken the power of asserting our actual “boundaries.” Now, we are not saying that you should tolerate behavior that doesn’t work for you, and you get to control how you respond to someone’s behavior, but you don’t get to exert control over someone else. If you want to change someone else’s behavior in relationship to you, it requires an agreement. This woman is creating a powerful context for interactions by distinguishing between a boundary, rule and standard. This is another powerful tool in negotiating control and the nuance of your interactions and relationships. If we #change the way of the #role our #government intervenes with #family & #public #assistance their would be more families #together & #connected to both #parents Start by taking away the “safety” blanket of #welfare. Which was created in 1935 because white #men didn’t want #women in the first place. It wasn’t widely available to Black women & other women of color until the government decided to #weaponize the program AFDC which changed to TANF that prevented #women of color to obtain the assistance if they had a #man in the #household. Although white women & men could continue to #live together under a household. The government provided free #training #education & assisting the white #male with finding #employment. Whereas they threatened the Black woman her assistance would be cut off if a man is #residing in the household & in the meantime placing the #father on child support, suspending his license & placing him in #jail for up to 6 months if he’s unable to pay. While the arrears aka back child support continues to accumulate. They offer that man no assistance at all like they do for the white man, with restrictions & his family. This is by design.
