Stop sharing this post. You’ve probably seen this warning claiming Meta is going to start reading all your private DMs, photos, and voice notes starting December 16th to train their AI. I fact-checked it, and the good news is: It’s not true. Meta isn’t suddenly reading your encrypted WhatsApps or private DMs. Those remain end-to-end encrypted. They physically can’t read them. The December 16 date refers to a policy update about conversations you have directly with their AI Chatbot. If you talk to the bot, yes, they use that data. If you’re talking to your best friend privately, they don’t. Now, the steps in that viral post are messy. The Objection Form they mention? That’s mostly for people in the UK and Europe due to GDPR laws. If you’re in the US, you probably won’t even see it. The real way to opt out? Meta trains on PUBLIC posts. So, if you don’t want your face training their AI, set your Instagram and Facebook profiles to Private. That does way more than unlinking your accounts.
