I was NOT prepared to cry this much! Im not the biggest fan of animal racing…BUT…The Kentucky Derby & its boys club, just got owned with its FIRST FEMALE TRAINER winner in 152 years. It’s rare a historically significant moment takes place & it’s something so INCREDIBLY POSITIVE, opposed to the ever so often traumatic or infuriating moments. Cherie DeVaux cheered on her jockey, José, the entire time. She already knew what her horse was capable of. She trained a damn champion. It was up to José. Who does José blast by in the final stretch? HIS BROTHER. She treasures her animal in a way thats so relatable to someone like me, who hasn’t been blessed with a life of motherhood. Instead, our love & affection is directed towards OUR “horses”. 🐎 On May 2, 2026, Cherie DeVaux became the first woman trainer to win the Kentucky Derby in its 152-year history. Her horse, Golden Tempo, wasn’t the favorite. At 23-1 odds, few expected the win. But with jockey José Ortiz in the saddle, Golden Tempo surged down the final stretch at Churchill Downs, crossing the finish line in 2:02.27. For over a century, women have trained Derby horses but never claimed the title. Only 19 horses trained by women had even entered the race before this. The closest finish came decades ago. Until now.
