This is what code switching looks like Why do I sound more serious in one language, but more playful in another? Why do I feel more “myself” depending on who I’m speaking to? Then I realized this: The environment where you learn a language becomes part of you. I learned Mandarin at home: laughing, joking 🤣 So when I speak it now, I’m warm, expressive, fully myself. I learned English at the university from beginner to fluent. So that’s where my structured thinking, my “professional” voice lives. And French… is somewhere in between.
