🧠 E21 (Part 1) of the Anti-brain rot series! We often think of our brain as a passive camera, capturing everything as it is. But the truth is, your brain is more of a storyteller, constantly making ‘best guesses’ about the world around you. Processing every tiny detail in real-time would be exhausting! Your brain uses shortcuts to keep you moving. In the wild, it was better to mistake a rustling leaf for a tiger than a tiger for a leaf. Your brain is wired for ‘better safe than sorry.’ And Your brain uses past experiences, expectations, and even your current emotions to fill in the blanks. Sometimes, our brain’s guess is off. This is called a prediction error. When your brain realizes that ‘ghost’ is just your laundry, it updates its model. From the famous Checkerboard Illusion to the infamous Dress debate (was it gold and white or blue and black?), we see how our brain’s internal model can sometimes override reality. ⚠️ While science gives us these incredible frameworks, it’s important to remember that our understanding of the human brain is still evolving and new research constantly reshapes what we know. A sleep researcher: “Your brain doesn’t trust you not to act out your dreams.” 4. Every time you remember something, you rewrite it. Memory isn’t playback — it’s reconstruction. Each recall alters the original. That’s why eyewitness testimony is unreliable. A researcher: “We don’t have a hard drive. We have a story we keep rewriting.” 5. Scientists just discovered new forms of cell death. Beyond apoptosis, researchers found novel cell deaths linked to Alzheimer’s and dementia. Cells aren’t just dying — they’re collapsing in unexpected ways. One scientist: “We’ve been studying the wrong kind of death.” 6. You don’t control what you see — your brain does. Vision is prediction, not reception. Your brain guesses first, then checks. Most of what you see is expectation, not reality.
