What is a Wolfdog? A wolfdog is a dog that possesses DNA from both a dog and a Grey Wolf. Does this mean it’s a dog directly crossed with a wolf? No! You can get f1 Wolfdogs which means that one parent is a wolf and the other is a dog, but most Wolfdogs are multigenerational which means several generations removed from the wolf. Each generation removed counts up such f2 (two generations) f3 (three generations) etc What is legal? Depends on where you live. In the UK it must be f3 and above if it’s to be legal. Any closer to the wolf, it must be housed and licensed as a full wolf, in an outdoor enclosure of a certain size with a boundary fence that falls without the law and you WILL BE CHECKED. Should you have a WOLFDOG? The answer is NO! I do not recommend wolfdogs as pets. I feature wolfdogs as I work with wolves and use my wolfdogs as educational. They visit places and people where I talk about why wild wolves are misunderstood and not monsters. I spent 24/7 with my wolfdogs, I don’t leave them home alone and they go everywhere with me. You’d be a fool to think one is the same as a Labrador or Spaniel, even a German Shepherd as their drive and determination means they will do EXACTLY what they want and most people haven’t a clue how to guide a wolfdog into being a gentle and cooperative individual. Many will end up in rescues and I do not want this. Some very low content wolfdogs around 20% and less act more like huskies and are easier BUT most people can’t handle huskies, so think about that! I’ll be trying to do some LESS CHAOTIC videos on Wolfdogs so you can start to learn more about them. Welcome to Remus, Romulus and Khaleesi. Three beautiful modern day Direwolves created with @itiscolossal The three beautiful white wolves were created by genetically editing gray wolf dna to change the most important features to match those found in ancient Direwolf DNA. It is now thought that all Direwolves were white as the dna came from two separate regions, thousands of years apart and show a white colour in the DNA. Another amazing result is that the puppies are growing a long mane which wasn’t anticipated. They are huge at 5 months, already the size of a mid sized gray wolf adult. Their head and jaw is larger and thicker as are their legs. They are babies still so we won’t be able to see how beautiful they are until they grow up. All wolf puppies are a bit gorky with long ears at an early age. This paves the way for conservation efforts to help save some of the world’s most threatened species.
