For decades, mainstream Christianity has treated the doctrine of eternal torment as if Jesus Himself carved it into stone. But the Bible says the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) — not eternal life in hellfire. The lost are compared to chaff burned up into ashes (Malachi 4:1-3). Jesus said the broad road leads to destruction (Matthew 7:13), not an eternal life of suffering. Here’s the truth: immortality belongs only to the saved (1 Timothy 6:16; John 3:16). God doesn’t hand the wicked a gift He only promises to the redeemed, just so they can scream forever. Hell is real, hell is final — but hell is not an eternal torture chamber. God doesn’t take pleasure in suffering; He brings sin to a complete end. Judgment is just. The universe will be restored. Sin will not rise again. And now even well-known evangelicals are beginning to recognize what Scripture has always said clearly: God’s justice ends sin — not sustains it eternally. This shift matters. Because the character of God matters. The gospel matters.
