Is the Wicklow Way on your bucket list? Stage 3 of the Wicklow Way is often considered one of the most scenic sections of Ireland’s longest waymarked trail - and in this video, I’m hiking from Oldbridge to Glendalough, taking in forest paths, open mountain views, and the quiet beauty of Wicklow Mountains National Park. There are no facilities along the way, so you'll want to be packed and prepared for your full day of hiking. You'll pass Brusher Gap Hut at about the halfway point, which makes a beautiful spot to enjoy a lunch break. Both ends of the route as I walked them (Roundwood and Glendalough) have public transport options. Local Link Bus 183 runs between the two, so you can easily get back to your starting point when you finish, or hop on a different bus out to Wicklow town or Dublin. The entire route is very well waymarked and you shouldn't have any issues navigating. You may lose phone signal at different sections, so having offline maps is the best way to stay safe in case you accidentally end up off trail. I used the @hiiker_the_hiking_app app to plan my exact route for the day starting from Roundwood village and joining the official Wicklow Way trail. Plan ahead for the following things in particular: - The official stage 3 is 9.4km, but if you start from Roundwood, like I did, it will be 13.1km in total. - Weather: it can be really unpredictable, so make sure you have whatever you'll need for the conditions on the day. - Food: Pack your own food and drinking water to carry with you as you won't pass any services along the route, apart from one drinking water tap right as you leave the first road walking section. Right, let’s talk the Spinc Trail in Wicklow – aka the walk that'll have your legs crying but your soul singing.⁠ ⁠ Tucked up in the stunning Glendalough Valley, this trail is an absolute gem. The conditions were relentless. Everything was completely saturated, making simple tasks like starting a fire far more difficult than usual.
