Forests are magical places. They are among the most biodiverse places on Earth, filled with more species of animals than any other habitat on land. And they are incredibly good at absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and locking it away for many years – which is something we need if we are to control our climate. Perhaps the most magical thing about forests is that, given the space and the time, they will grow back to their former glory. In a deep jungle of India, the night still lingered between the trees. A wide, rushing river cut through the forest, its waters murmuring under the pale morning mist. On the bank, a shadow appeared. A black leopard stood silently, powerful and still, watching the opposite side. Its dark coat swallowed the light, making it almost invisible—only its eyes shone through the dimness. It moved closer to the edge, studying the current… then stepped back. A moment of tension. Without warning, it leapt. Its body soared over the raging river, suspended for a heartbeat in midair—like a frame from a rare and incredible video. Then… It landed perfectly on the other side. Without a sound, it vanished into the jungle, swallowed by the shadows.
