I posted the glazing of a tiny cast iron sash the other day, here’s the window that it belongs to. It needed a couple of new (old) panes as well. Glazing and painting the small opening part of a cast iron window. The only two differences from a wooden sash is that there are no glazing pins, and that the tolerances for the glass size is minimal. I use hot glue and linseed putty, some use synthetic putty instead to make up for the lack of pins. In the old days they used a special putty made from a mix of natural rubber (kautschuk) linseed oil and lead oxide that hardened to a kind of mortar like substance. Priming is the final step in the mechanics to prime (M2P) sequence. M2P blends together the first halves of the mechanical makeover and frame makeover. It is a completed unit of work and a hard stopping point. Everything that can be done to the frame and mechanics had been done.
