Quick BTS of our set for the day. We were brought on to shoot an unboxing video for an amazing brand. We decided to use three cameras: a Canon EOS 300D MK3, a Canon EOS 50, and an Osmo Pocket 3.

Big zooms aren’t scary, here are the steps: 🎥💪 1️⃣ Swap the giant 24-inch dovetail. 2️⃣ Mount your support rods (19mm for me) — make sure they match your bridge plate. 3️⃣ Lock the tripod head for safety. 4️⃣ Screw on the lens support, leave it loose, tie-down facing front. 5️⃣ Open the lens port, rest the support on the rails, slide the lens in, lock the PL. 6️⃣ Adjust the support column so the lens sits perfectly — lock it. 7️⃣ Check. Every. Lock. Every. Clamp. 8️⃣ Only now… let go. 😅 9️⃣ Put motors on, rebalance, hand it to the operator. Big zooms aren’t scary if you follow the steps. I built this entire rig for a two-second product shoot transition. No cuts. Just one continuous motion. Was it necessary? Absolutely not! Did it work? Yessss… and I’d do it again. Gimbals are awesome, but some people overcomplicate them. Instead of trying crazy, complex shots that usually don’t work, stick to these 3 basics to help tell your story: 1️⃣ The Orbit Shot: Move left to right around your subject. It’s also perfect for revealing a new space 2️⃣ Tilt Up/Down: Simple and effective. Just switch to PTF mode and slowly move the camera to reveal your subject. 3️⃣ Push In/Out: A classic move to bring your viewers closer to the action or pull them back to see the whole scene. Master these three, and then you can start getting fancy with the rolls. Follow for more video production tips and info!

Pulling focus on modern RF and photo lenses can be frustrating, especially when there are no hard stops and the focus resets every time you power down.
