I believe anyone can learn to write music 🩷 I’ve been writing songs since I was 4 years old. Through things I’ve learned on my own, studying privately with professional composers, and graduating from college with an emphasis based around composition, I learned a few tricks I want to share!! 1) Listen I can’t emphasize this enough! It’s so important to have an open mind and listening ear to ALL kinds of music. It will expand your musical vocabulary. I listen to everything from classical to EDM. There’s things to learn from all genres! 2) Practice making clones Not human clones ofc, but song clones 😘 Find a piece that really inspires you and see if you can replicate it. This is also a great tool for fighting writers block. I’ve learned SO MUCH from other composers this way, and it usually acts as a catalyst for my next piece. 3) Compose in an inspiring environment For me, one of my favorite places to come up with ideas is under the stars. I’ll sit outside with my voice memo app and just speak or sing any ideas that come to mind. But anywhere that inspires you or makes you feel the way you want your piece to feel will work!! Maybe that means setting up some nice decor next to your instrument, or getting some lighting that vibes with you. Anything goes here! 🩷 What tip helped you the most?
