Early laboring at home, I am 3cm dilated with real contractions but my cervix isn’t changing so they sent me home after 10 hours of contractions in the Hostipital. This is my 3rd day of real contractions, so I’m trying to stay active so my son can stay in the birthing Canal. I have a adult diaper on just incase my water does break, drinking my raspberry leaf tea and pineapple juice, squating as much as I can, getting on my birthing ball, sitting in the dilation station for 30 mins. At 1–2 cm dilation, don’t panic as yet! This is latent labour. 👉 ACOG ( American Guideline) says active labour starts only at 6 cm, so early dilation can take hours to even days if mom & baby are stable. 👉Prolonged latent stage of labour is at 16 hours or more!! But we can still wait if baby is okay and mom is okay! ❌It is not okay to wait if- 👶🏻Pregnancy at or beyond 40 weeks 👶🏻Rising blood pressure 👶🏻Baby’s heart beat dropping or NST is non-reassuring 👶🏻Meconium stained liquor 👉 WHO agrees—there’s no fixed time limit at 1–2 cm. During contractions, the uterus changes a lot! 😃 The uterus, is a really large organ when you’re full term. Usually it’s only about the size of your fist, but once your baby is full term it’s more like a large watermelon. ❤️When contractions begin, the muscles of the uterus tighten, causing them to shorten and thicken. This creates a force that propels your baby downward. ❤️This is what makes your cervix shorten and open ups too! ❤️The entire process is orchestrated by a complex interplay of hormones, with oxytocin playing a central role. The midwife was set to arrive to check in at 1:30. I had been having very manageable contractions every 5-10 mins for about 2-3 hours so we figured we had plenty of time. . . I had been doing @posturalrestoration retro stairs, heel stair descents and PRI inspired lateral stair walking between contractions earlier in the morning but I felt like things weren't progressing as fast as I wanted them to. My waters had been broken for over 24 hrs at this point and the 1:30 visit was to discuss our plan going forward. Was it time to go in? I was never home birth or bust I was open to whatever was going to be safest. . . @caseybptyogi came by and we did a little needling - just to see if we could get anything to ramp up- was able to sit breathe and use horses breath during contractions then pick up our conversation right were we left off. No way was I about to hit transition. Right?! My parents and son went out to get some groceries. . . As I stood up from sitting I said oh... this next contraction is going to be big... my husband did his first hip squeeze of my entire labor and while it helped so much something had definitely shifted. My third baby, i decided to really try my hardest to not get the epidural. It was honestly such a beautiful experience🥹🫶 I absolutely loved my epidural for my first baby. With her my contractions were so close together and painful i went about 7 hours unmedicated until i finally got the epidural which i was so grateful for because i still had contractions for another 5 hours before i started pushing. My second epidural scarred me 😭 i went through all the toughest contractions until about 6 dilated and i asked for the epidural. It came about 45 mins later, it was painful, and it didn’t work on half of my body. I ended up pushing about 30 mins after getting it so it was not worth it to me. Which is why i knew my body would be able to handle my 3rd baby without it! Luckily, my mom and Ryan were so helpful getting me through each contraction. You just gotta take em one at a time. It’s extremely painful but only temporary. The best part about not getting the epidural was being so alert after. I felt like i was much more present and remember the birth so clearly. This is just my experience. Again, i loved my epidural for my first baby and i wouldn’t change it at all! Every pregnancy and labor is different so just listen to your body, & know that the goal is just a healthy baby and a healthy mama💓 #bithexperience #epidural #labor #birthplan #unmedicated
