Cloudflare’s major Tuesday outage was caused by an internal software failure, not a cyberattack. A change in database permissions caused Cloudflare’s Bot Management system to generate a massively oversized configuration file. When this bad file deployed across the network, it triggered crashes in Cloudflare’s core proxy engine and caused widespread 5xx errors for sites like ChatGPT, X, and thousands of others. Once Cloudflare identified the faulty file, they rolled it back globally and restored traffic. Mengingat peran vital Cloudflare yang menjadi “tulang punggung” bagi jutaan situs web, gangguan ini berpotensi melumpuhkan sebagian besar aktivitas internet di seluruh dunia. Pihak Cloudflare merilis pernyataan resmi melalui laman status mereka pada pukul 11:48 UTC (atau sekitar pukul 19:48 WITA). “Cloudflare menyadari dan sedang menyelidiki masalah yang berpotensi berdampak pada banyak pelanggan. Detail lebih lanjut akan diberikan seiring ketersediaan informasi,” tulis pernyataan resmi tersebut. Dampak Skala Masif Skala gangguan ini tidak bisa dianggap remeh. Cloudflare merupakan layanan yang memproses permintaan internet untuk jutaan situs web. Data mencatat layanan ini melayani rata-rata 78 juta permintaan HTTP per detik. Singkatnya, ketika Cloudflare bermasalah, maka internet pun bermasalah. Pengguna media sosial X (dulu Twitter) sudah mulai ramai melaporkan kendala akses ke berbagai situs. Ironisnya, situs Down Detector—yang biasanya menjadi rujukan utama warganet untuk mengecek status layanan yang error—juga dilaporkan mengalami masalah dan sulit diakses. Hal ini mengindikasikan betapa luasnya dampak gangguan jaringan Cloudflare kali ini. Ini bukan kali pertama Cloudflare mengalami gangguan besar.
