Contractions should.. - make you stop - take all of your concentration - get closer and stronger If you’re not sure if it’s time, the car test is a good way to see if it’s time to go to the hospital.

Remember this for when you are in labor! The toilet is nicknamed “the dilation station”, because it helps you dilate faster. ✅Your body will naturally relax your pelvic floor. ✅Gravity will help your baby move downwards and put more pressure on your cervix, which causes it to dilate. ✅You get to go to the bathroom and empty your bladder which will create more space for baby to keep moving downwards. This ✨might✨ make birthing sensations a little stronger and it ✨might✨ make labor a little faster, but that’s okay because you are capable of this! The toilet is also non-invasive, and could potentially reduce interventions needed to speed up a birth. With the lack of negative side effects, there is little to no harm in sitting on the toilet to see if you like it or not, so I encourage you to try! 🚽 There is no right or wrong time to sit upon the dilation station, but most women tend to use it during active labor when contractions are closer together and labor is well established. Baby was born 15 minutes after this video was taken, oh and surprised everyone by being breech 😂 Had a baby less than an hour of parking my car at the hospital. Showed up and progressed so fast, baby turned out to be breech had no time to do a C-section as I was already pushing & baby was coming. here is me at 9 cm dilated + about to give birth. 🤷🏻‍♀️ smiling, bouncing, happy. 😆 no meds, no pokes, no interventions. 🚫 here’s what really helped me go unmedicated: 1. Staying at home as long as possible - I mean truly as long as you can possibly wait. not the standard they tell you of when contractions are 5 minutes apart. unless you live far away from the hospital I’d wait much longer than that. 🏥 2. Moving around - I did not stop walking or bouncing on the ball until it was time to push. This not only helped with the pain so much but it also increased endorphins and helped progress labor. 🚶‍♀️ 3. Staying OFF my back - no you can’t check me, no you can’t hook me up to machines, no I won’t be lying on my back to push. Imagine lying on your back to take a poop? You are literally fighting gravity. It’s so uncomfortable. Yes, you can birth a big baby without tearing. 🙌 My daughter was 10 lbs and I didn’t need a single stitch. Here’s why: 1️⃣I used movement + upright positions to give her space during labor 2️⃣ I trusted my body’s rhythm instead of forcing pushing - waiting until my body started bearing down vs relying on cervical checks was key👌(ps, I didn’t request a single check throughout my entire labor) 3️⃣ The amount of pressure you feel during this stage can be alarming - I recognized the feeling, and felt the ring of fire. Instead of pushing through that, I paused and waited for another contraction, moving my legs to create more space. This allowed my tissues to stretch s l o w l y. 4️⃣I focused on breathing baby down, not holding my breath. Aka “purple pushing.” It can be effective if you absolutely need to get the baby out fast, but it does come with its own set of drawbacks. (Like pelvic floor trauma and tearing) I also moaned and primally yelled - did you know this can help open up your pelvic floor? ✨ Tearing is common, but it isn’t always inevitable. I am not a first time mom which certainly helps! BABY CHANGES POSITIONS LAST MINUTE Not common, but sometimes babies flip. This is my 4th or 5th baby that has turned late in the pregnancy in homebirths. When I worked in the hospital setting, this is called unstable lie. Many reasons why baby will turn last minute 1. Polyhydramnios (excess fluids) 2. Small baby 3. Uterine abnormalities (fibroids, etc) 4. Previous multiple gestation pregnancy (lots of space for singleton baby 5. Placental abnormalities- placenta previa 6. Pelvic asymmetry Not operation change position and bring baby down. What things have you tried to turn baby or get them into the pelvis? There are lots of methods out there.
