There are many great composers whose music I truly love, but only a few touch me deeply at a soulful level. Among those composers, Sergei Rachmaninoff is one of the most profound for me. The incredible intensity of his music, the expressive melodic lines, the rich harmonies and chord progressions, and the musical phrasing are such that, I believe, no one can remain indifferent. I am performing more and more of his music, and one of the new albums I am planning to record in the coming months will feature several works by Rachmaninoff. Here is a video recorded live at Gravíssimo!, where I perform Rachmaninoff’s Andante, the third movement of his Cello Sonata, with Maria Derevyagina on piano.
