The guy in the video said it best... "Eso si es otra onda" Woke up at 4am to hike to the peak of Acatenango. It's a steep, 1.5 hour hike on loose lava rock to get to the summit, but I was able to get there right before sunrise. Just watching the sunrise was amazing, but also having an active volcano shooting flaming rocks everywhere?! Come on... probably the most unique sunrise view I've ever seen. Scratch that, DEFINITELY the greatest sunrise I've seen. This will live in my little brain for a long time, going to be hard to top this one. #acatenango #fuego #sunrise #volcano #volcan #lava #fire #guate #guatemala #views #bestview #peak #summit #hike #bucketlist #bucketlistadventures #adventure #explore #natureisbeautiful #naturevideos #geography #rocks #centralamerica #liveoutdoors #outdooradventures #trending #travel #travel2024 #2024 #viral For licensing/commercial use, contact [email protected]

My honest review of hiking Acatenango 🥾🌋 Tour company I went with: Lava Trails (very happy with my experience with them!) Some tips/details: Most tour companies have a place for storage & many accommodations have lockers as well. I would recommend spending a few days in Antigua to acclimate to being in higher elevation. The bathroom situation is non existent throughout the hike (natures toilet) but basecamp has outhouses. I didn’t think it was too bad considering you’re on a volcano. 3 optional hikes: sunset, fuego, and sunrise. Fuego is the most difficult but also a high reward if you can see the eruption up close. It gets very cold up the mountain so have at LEAST 3 layers. Do you have any questions about this hike? #adventuretravel #guatemala #acatenango #hikingadventure

Save this for your bucket list! ✍️ Hiking Volcan Acatenango in Guatemala to see one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, Fuego, is an experience we will never forget. We were in awe watching the eruptions all night, each one different from the last. Experiences like these are why we love adventure travel. Keep in mind this hike is strenuous, at high altitude, and requires a guide and a lot of preparation. We went with @wichoandcharlies and highly recommend them! 🎒: @cotopaxi & @rei 🥾: @adidasterrex & @vivobarefoot Is this hike on your bucket list? #volcanacatenango #volcanfuego #volcanohike #volcano #adventuretravel #bucketlisthikes #bucketlisttravel

HIKING ACATENANGO + FUEGO VOLCANO🌋 ⭐️SAVE for your next trip to Guatemala! When people tell you that this hike is absolutely brutal — they’re not lying!! This is officially the hardest hike we’ve ever done so this is everything you should know before hiking 👇 🥾The Acatenango / Fuego hike is the most popular volcano hike in Guatemala (for good reason) and is ~13 miles and 5,470 ft of elevation give or take if you do Fuego / summit. This is 2D/1N hike. 🐂There are many different tour companies but we highly highly recommend @oxexpeditions. It cost $278 for 2 people. Breakfast, lunch, dinner included. 🎒You can rent gear included in the price such as backpacks, jackets, headlamps, beanies, gloves and more or bring your own. We used our 32L packs and they were a great size. ☁️We recommend acclimating 1-3 days in Antigua before doing this hike. 🌤️Weather is UNPREDICTABLE. On our way up we were hiking completely in the clouds and rain but by the time we reached camp the SKY CLEARED and we had sunny weather the rest of the time. 😷This is a dusty DUSTY hike - especially if you’re hiking on a clear sunny day. Bring a neck garter or bandana so you’re not breathing in so much dirt. 🌋The Fuego volcano (the one that erupts) is currently “napping” so we didn’t see any lava / eruptions. This is quite unusual for this volcano but the hike was still worth it! 🌄You’ll hike to base camp as a group and then have the option to A) hike to Fuego for sunset and/or B) hike to Acatenango summit at sunrise. We chose to do Fuego for sunset and did not summit at 4am (🪦) PACKING LIST Sleeping bag liner Rain Jacket + cover Fleece Puffer Jacket Synthetic base layers Extra pair of socks Shorts to sleep in Beanie Gloves Hiking shoes Toothbrush + paste Toilet paper 4-5L of water AT LEAST (no running water on the hike) Snacks Headlamp **you can rent trekking poles for 100Q each Is this on your Guatemala bucket list? 🇬🇹 Follow @travelersforgood for more epic hiking adventures 🌎 #acatenangohike #acatenango #hikingguatemala #hikingadventures #acatenangoexperts #acatenangohiking #fuego #volcanfuego #volcanacatenango #volcanohike #guatemalatravel #guatemalaadventures

From @danii_vee - 📍Volcán de Fuego - Guatemala 🇬🇹 “A challenging hike. After about 4 hours of pure ascent, we finally arrived at Volcán Acatenango base camp, which sits at about 3400m. The sun had set and the temperature had dropped to about 3°C. Our group bundled up, and sat around the campfire to keep warm as our tour guide had our spaghetti dinner on the campfire. As we chatted and got to know one another, we simultaneously admired the visuals and sounds of the blazing eruptions coming from our neighboring wonder - Volcán de Fuego. Fuego showed off about every twenty minutes and had many eyes on her eating up the show. As if we weren’t enamored by the volcanic show of plume and blazing red rocks, Mother Earth took her power to the next level and showed off with a lightning show. With my freezing hands, I grabbed my camera in hopes to catch an eruption and a lightning show simultaneously - but what I caught was so much more than I could’ve hoped for. Fuego had made direct contact with lighting and channeled so much energy for what lasted about an entire three seconds. A once in a lifetime volcanic lightning show. It felt like my heart had jumped out of my chest, and my soul caught fire just as the sky did. It was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever witnessed. Those three seconds will stay forever engraved in my mind and heart.” #guatemala #volcandefuego #earthpix

this is what a couple of days with @nomabasecamp looks like🌋📍 What an experience it was to feel the power of an active volcano that close up. We hiked to a lookout point near Fuego for sunset, and hiked up Acatenango for sunrise. Between our hikes we stayed at Noma Base Camp and had amazing food made for us, coffee & drinks anytime, a heated tent, and a cozy fire to watch the volcano erupt after dark. This is one of the only tours where you can skip the 6 hour hike to base camp and get a 4x4 on a private road into the park. Highly recommend this tour if you ever visit Guatemala! 📍Volcan de Fuego, Guatemala

THE BEST HIKE IN THE WORLD 🌎 So what was it and some tips ⬇️ It took us 5 hours to base camp, then another 4 hours to go up and down Fuego that evening -> base camp. The following day from base camp to Acatenango was an early start, and took 2 hours up there, then the way down was easy. Couple hours home. The volcanoes: Numero 1. Volcano Fuego: erupts almost every 15 mins! Fuego offers incredible views of lava flows. Honestly the most surreal experience. Numero 2: Acatenango: A dormant volcano, it was a challenging hike but had stunning sunrise views and a clear view of Fuego that I climbed the night before. Again super cool and a bit higher (4000m) Tips: 1. Prepare for Altitude: Acclimate properly to avoid altitude sickness. I stayed in Antigua (1600m) for a couple days before hiking 2. Pack Essentials: Bring warm clothing, headlamps, plenty of water, and snacks. 4-5L is optimal water. 3. Hire a Guide: Yeah you need someone to get you up there. So many tour companies, I won’t recommend just one. Book well in advance though! (Unlike me). About $60-100 is standard. 4. Start Early: Earlier you start the better, it means you get the sunset on Fuego 5. Stay Overnight: Camping on Acatenango allows for a unique overnight experience and the chance to see Fuego erupt under the stars. This is a must. Was so so good - weird sleeping that high but so cool. 6. Fitness Level: The hike is strenuous, so make sure you have a bit of fitness about you. But to be honest, anyone can get up here. Gritty but possible. If you can’t - you can always get a horse ha! This has been on my bucket list for years, and it just didn’t disappoint. Save this reel for future reference or let me know if any questions! #VolcanoFuego #Acatenango #VolcanoHike #GuatemalaTravel #AdventureHiking #EpicViews #NatureLovers #TravelGram #Wanderlust #MountainAdventure #SunriseViews #OutdoorExploration #HikingAdventures #TravelGoals #bucketlist

Not to sugar coat things, Acatenango was the most physically demanding thing I’ve done on vacation. There were moments I genuinely questioned why I signed up for this. But mentally and physically pushing myself wasn’t even the best thing, it was the view, being above the clouds. Mind blowing 🤯 The hike doesn’t care about your fitness level, your gear, or how many volcano treks you’ve done before. It will humble you. The only reason I was able to do this was because it was a girls trip - I wouldn’t have done it solo. Then hiking the extra leg to feugo, I had no business doing that but it was so dangerous, we could have gotten the same view from base camp. #VisitGuatemala #AcatenangoHike #GuatemalaTravel #VolcanoHike #CentralAmericaTravel

Acatenango volcano, Guatemala This is a difficult hike. I don’t want to sugar coat it. We were fully prepared we may need to carry our girls for a portion of this trek. Thank the aligning stars we didn’t need to. Not sure I would have been able to pull it off. This trail was straight up for hours before it added a few switchbacks in. We also needed to carry all our drinking water and food for the 24 hrs so we’re pretty weighted down. Shannon’s pack weight: 38 lbs (4.5 L water included) Tyson’s pack weight: 50 lbs (7.5 L water included) Kids: no packs 🥾Distance: 14 kms out and back ⛰️Elevation gain: 1400 metres ⛺️Basecamp elevation where you sleep: 3600 metres ⏱️4hrs 45 mins from trailhead to basecamp 11:10 am Arrive at trailhead 11:25 am Hiking 11:45 First break Few more breaks along the way 1:30 pm Lunch break 3:00 pm Reach parking lot 4:10 pm Basecamp 4:30 pm Hike Fuego (optional) 7:30 pm Dinner 10 pm Bedtime 4 am Wake up to summit Acatenango (optional) 7 am Breakfast 8 am Hike down 11 am Back at start of trailhead It was a whirlwind 24 hrs, and an unforgettable experience. The stars aligned and our kids crushed this hike. This is probably their best hike yet. Maybe the end goal of an erupting volcano was what pushed them? And the running down? Whatever it was we will take it. They had lots of fun and that’s what matters most. Tyson and I were dragging a bit for the first 3+ hours because of the extra weight we were packing. Once we got used to that we picked it up a bit and were wowed by Fuego erupting. Once you get to the Basecamp you pretty much forget all about the grind up as you are so distracted by the beauty of nature and Fuego 🌋 We went with@catravelers as our guide company (not sponsored), and I would highly recommend booking with them. 🤯🤯 you tell me, worth it? 👀 details ⬇️ 🌋 to view El Fuego erupting, you need to climb Acatenago! I’d highly recommend doing the overnight tour with V Hiking, they’re a local tour company and I loved the experience so much!! 🥾you have the option to continue hiking after base camp for the El Fuego hike, which you MUST do if you physically can!! The drone shot at the beginning is that hike:) 🌄 you will ALSO be offered a sunrise hike - we skipped this because Raheem had altitude sickness (make sure to acclimate to the altitude in Antigua before the hike) and I wasn’t feeling great either, but the view of sunrise from base camp was INSANE anyway!! Have you done this hike?! Follow along for more bucket list travel inspiration:)
