Se basa en la posición del primer molar superior respecto al primer molar inferior: *Clase I*: Mordida normal. El molar superior encaja justo en el surco del molar inferior. Es la relación ideal, aunque puede haber dientes chuecos. *Clase II*: Mordida hacia atrás. El molar inferior está más atrás de lo normal respecto al superior. Se ve como "dientes salidos". Tiene división 1 y 2 según la inclinación de los incisivos. *Clase III*: Mordida hacia adelante. El molar inferior está más adelante de lo normal.
