There’s a kind of motherhood that lives in the in-between. The space where you’re so incredibly proud of how far your child has come… but still grieving how hard things are for them. Tomorrow is Nash’s IEP meeting. And if you’re a mom who’s ever sat at that table… you already know. You walk in carrying progress, growth, and little wins that mean everything. But you also carry the weight of the labels, the comparisons, and the quiet fears you don’t always say out loud. I used to worry so much about how others would see him. Now I just see him. His joy. His world. His way of doing things. To the moms in this space… the ones advocating, researching, crying in quiet moments, and showing up anyway I see you. I am you. We can be grateful and grieving at the same time. 🤍 #iepmoms #advocating #motherhood #momrelatable #thisismotherhood

There are only four moments in this video. But each one carries layers you don’t see. Advocating for a one-on-one isn’t just a meeting. It’s documentation, follow-ups, emails, waiting, explaining, proving, and repeating yourself until someone finally listens. Getting a medication approved isn’t just a prescription. It’s hours on the phone, insurance battles, justifying medical necessity, and feeling like you have to prove your child deserves care. Asking for ultrasound-assisted lab work wasn’t just a request. It was advocating before the trauma happens, pushing back, standing firm, and refusing to let my child be another “try and see” situation. Leaving a 72-hour EEG early wasn’t just a decision. It was conversations with multiple doctors, standing my ground, trusting my instincts, and carrying the emotional weight of making a call that only a parent can make. And these are just the big moments. The truth is, advocacy happens every day. With doctors. With schools. With insurance. With therapists. With family. With strangers. With systems not built for our children. It’s constant. It’s invisible. And it’s exhausting. People often ask why special needs parents are so tired. It’s not just caregiving. It’s the mental load of advocating in rooms where you have to be strong, informed, calm, persistent, and sometimes loud… all at once. It’s decision fatigue from making hundreds of choices that carry real consequences for your child’s safety, comfort, and future. We advocate so much behind the scenes that by the time the day ends, there’s very little left for ourselves. But we do it anyway. Because our children deserve voices that don’t give up. Even when we’re tired. Especially when we’re tired. #specialneedsparenting #advocating #caregivinglife

If you’ve ever been told to “just deal with it” because that’s how it’s always been done—this is for you. Questioning a process doesn’t make you difficult. Wanting more information doesn’t make you argumentative. And advocating for better care, safer systems, or healthier work environments doesn’t make you a problem. Medicine evolves. Standards evolve. And yes—systems, policies, and expectations should evolve too. Your voice matters. Respectful questions create better care. Change starts when someone is brave enough to ask why. 🤍 Save this. Share it with a nurse who needs the reminder. #nurse #advocating #nursesofinstagram #workplacesafety #bravery

BYE ✌🏻 but no, first let me tell you why. The “R” word isn’t just “old language.” It’s harmful. It reduces people to a label, strips away dignity, and reinforces stigma. Our students, friends, and loved ones with disabilities deserve better. Language matters—choose words that respect humanity and honor the progress we’ve made with inclusivity, not diminish it. Watching my son struggle to eat is scary. He has dysphagia and chokes often, so every meal has to be monitored closely. Feeding therapy helps, but it’s still dangerous. 💙 #Dysphagia #FeedingTherapy #SpecialNeedsMom #SpecialNeedsFamily #AngelmanSyndrome #DisabilityAwareness #CaregiverLife #SwallowingDisorder #FeedingChallenges #Autism #SpecialNeedsParenting #Advocating #rarediseaseawareness

7 weeks out of school and still no proper support. Two children with additional needs, both left in limbo because the system meant to help them keeps failing them. Delays, broken promises, endless emails, and constant fighting just to get the basics they are legally entitled to. People see “home education” and assume it was a choice… sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes you’re left with no other option when schools and SEN teams can’t meet your child’s needs. I will never stop fighting for them. But no parent should have to battle this hard just for their child to feel safe, supported, and able to learn. If you’re going through the same, you’re not alone 🤍 #senmum #sendparents #advocating #autismacceptance #homeeducationuk

Mums in general are a fierce species...but throw in having a disabled child and they can go from zero to Liam Neeson in Taken real damn quickly. Because when people come for your disabled child, when they are simply just existing, it ignites a fire in your soul like no other. And when you have to constantly fight for your child, for their basic needs to be met by society, you develop those skills very quickly. You become the expert in advocacy and you make the change happen. And that does make us the nightmare to deal with. And I'll take being that parent every single time.
