One of the largest rock pythons ever seen on this reserve in Zimbabwe. We were only told it was big, but didn’t expect a 14-15 foot one. It was an amazing catch with rhinos just behind us, and fortunately no lions came in to check us out. The snake is aggressive when provoked, but apart from that, it is calm. When I released her and could watch her slither back into the bush, you could really see the animal’s true nature. Plus, it was amazing to catch a python in their native habitat, as opposed to the many I have caught in Florida, where they are invasive and must be removed. #Africa #Zimbabwe #Python #Snakes #Safari

Stumbled upon this African Rock Python after a long day of filming. You never know what you will come across in the bush. • African rock pythons are among the largest snakes on Earth, commonly reaching 10–16 feet long, with rare giants pushing beyond 20 feet. They’re pure muscle wrapped in patience. • They are ambush predators, killing prey by constriction rather than venom, and their menu can include antelope, warthogs, monkeys, crocodiles, and occasionally livestock when humans overlap their territory. • Females show rare reptilian parental care: they coil around their eggs for up to three months, shivering their muscles to generate heat and guard the clutch until hatching—an evolutionary babysitting flex that’s surprisingly tender for such a formidable animal.
