Something BIG has arrived at Richmond’s Virginia Museum of Fine Arts! 🎨 Last week, the @vmfamuseum debuted a special look at their latest featured exhibition, Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys. This exciting exhibition is an exploration of the profound and prolific contributions of Black artists to the field of contemporary art. The VMFA kicked of the unveiling with an exciting Giants Preview Party, giving guests a look at the approximately 130 objects of the Dean Collection, including iconic works of art by nearly 40 “giants” of the art world. Giants showcases the Deans’ commitment to supporting artists from 20th-century icons to younger artists who are advancing the legacies of those who came before them. It explores the site’s land, buildings, and former inhabitants. 👀 The E. Claiborne and Lora Robins Sculpture Garden serves as a 🧘🏾‍♀️serene outdoor oasis for museum visitors and local community. It features, beautifully landscaped gardens, a stunning waterfall, and an impressive sculpture exhibition amidst its 3½-acre multi-leveled grounds. We were pleased by the alluring art exhibits. The Worsham- Rockefeller Bedroom at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (@vmfamuseum). Arabella Worsham commissioned George Shastey to design this elaborate room in her Manhattan mansion and when she moved away to get married she told the home to John D. Rockefeller, who didn't change a thing. The house is long since demolished, but there are rooms on display at the Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and this room in Richmond, Virginia.

The red carpet was rolled out at the VMFA on Tuesday for the opening of "Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys." Giants, which officially opens November 22 and runs through March 1, 2026 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, includes around 130 objects and iconic works of art by nearly 40 “giants” of the art world, according to the museum. In addition to paintings, photographs, and sculptures, VMFA visitors can expect to see the Deans' albums, musical equipment, and BMX bikes. Field trip day!!!! The mission of this field trip to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is for my students to pick two of their favorite art pieces reflect on the elements and principles found within them and then head back to the studio and create one new piece combining the two together!!! Here is a little example piece I made combining Odili Donald Odita’s “Procession” , found on the walls of the main hall of the museum with this small black Estruscan Bucchero Ware drinking cup!!!
