Never before seen 👀 Flashback to one of the rarest encounters I’ve ever been a part of—deep on the bottom of the Caribbean. This is a Caribbean rough shark… a species so elusive that not long ago, the only footage we had came from fisheries. To witness it alive, in its natural environment, is something very few people on this planet have experienced. A few facts about this incredible shark ⬇️ • Known scientifically as Oxynotus caribbaeus • Deepwater species typically found around 1300-1500ft (400–450 m) • Recognized by its rough, sandpaper-like skin and sail like tail • Small, slow-moving shark that feeds mainly on invertebrates like crustaceans • never encountered by divers—most records historically came from accidental catches Sharing this one because it was already shot vertical… but moments like this deserve to be seen no matter what. #rareencounter #deepsea #caribbeanroughshark #underwaterworld #marinebiology oceanlife wildlifeonearth underwaterphotography oceanexploration

What Would You Name This Shark? Video courtesy of @southwestrocksdive Follow @creatures_of_the_deep_ for more! This Shark has many names, depending on where you live. Sand Tiger, Grey Nurse, Ragged Tooth. That last one certainly makes sense! This movement is actually the Shark’s yawn! Of course, sharks don’t have lungs, so don’t yawn for the same reasons we do. This is a maintenance action, going through the motions of a bite in order to get their jaws into a more comfortable position! The top jaw shooting out is because of another difference we have with sharks: their top jaw is not fused with their skull! In the ocean, the smallest distance can be the difference between eating and going hungry. This fact led Sharks to be able to protrude their jaws forward, gaining that extra bit of reach, making all the difference in their underwater struggle to survive! There’s nothing to fear with Sand Tiger/Grey Nurse/Ragged Tooth Sharks though. Despite how intimidating they look, they are no risk to humans. In fact, there has NEVER been a documented fatality from one of these Sharks! Don’t judge a book by its cover! . . . . . #shark #sharks #lovesharks #greynurseshark #sandtigershark #raggedtoothshark #sharktooth #sharkteeth #natureisamazing #sea #sealife #seacreatures

Cruising along the sandy sea floor is one of natures most incredible creatures. A shark ray with huge dorsal fins moves through the water with such power and grace. These animals are halfway between a ray and a shark, this species is known as a Bottlenose Wedgefish. #australiascoralcoast #coralbay #westernaustralia #exmouth #thisiswa #ningalooreef #coralbay #ningaloo #ABCmyphoto #SeeAustralia #BBCWildlifePOTD #EarthCapture #westisbest #marineanimals #oceanography #divingphoto #scubadivinglife #scubadiving #oneocean #underwaterlife #BBCWildlifePOTD #natgeo #ausgeo #shark #guitarshark #ray

You are still beautiful This is the Ragged-tooth shark, possibly my favourite Elasmobranchs. When I filmed this guy in Australia I noticed part of his snout was missing. This beauty is called 👇🏽 Thresher shark Its tail is almost as long as its entire body. And yes – it actually uses it as a weapon. One strike is enough to stun its prey. All while looking completely calm. Check out my highlights @bonita.travels you’ll get stuck there for a while

The post features a 15-second video of Norwegian commercial fishermen in orange oilskins hauling a thrashing 13-foot porbeagle shark aboard their boat during rough North Atlantic seas, showcasing the raw physical demands of shark fishing. Porbeagle sharks, a North Atlantic mackerel species reaching 500 pounds, are legally targeted in Norway but face EU quotas; a 2023 study in Marine Policy notes sustainable yields of 2,500 tons annually to avoid depletion.

The beauty of the Oceanic blacktip shark (Carcharinus limbatus) Oceanic blacktip is a large shark, it's dark grey to brown on top transitioning to white underneath. It has characteristically marked black-tipped fins. Maximum size can be 2.86mt in length and maximum weight 125kg. Limbatus prefer to hunt small schooling fishes, taking out prey as they move quickly through the school, often breaching the water at the surface, sometimes spinning up three or four times around their axis before falling back in the water. This behavior is thought to facilitate the sharks’ predatory success while feeding on schools of fish near the surface. #limbatus #oceanicblacktipshark #blacktipshark #shark #sharks #squalo #squalopinnanera #fishlover #fish #pez #tropicalfishofinstagram #reeffish #tropicalfish #redseafish #fishlover #fishesofinstagram #instafish #instafishing #aquarium #pesce #pesci #pescitropicali #aquarium #aquario #aquarismo #aquarismomarinho #colours #colourfull #colorpop

Look At That Scar! Video courtesy of @jalilnajafov Follow @creatures_of_the_deep_ for more! There’s always a bigger fish in the sea! This Great White Shark was on the losing end of some fight! Sharks will often communicate with their teeth, showing who’s bigger and stronger, and who has to submit or swim off to somewhere else in the ocean! However, this is NOT evidence of some mega shark that has a bite this big! While sharks heal incredibly well, they do scar, and this scar is likely quite old! Most likely, when the shark was younger and smaller, it got in the way of a bigger adult! Although, it is impossible to know just what might be lurking deep underwater! . . . . . #shark #sharks #lovesharks #ilovesharks #sharkaddicts #sharksofinstagram #greatwhiteshark #greatwhitesharks #sea #sealife #sealove #sealover #sealovers #seacreatures #seacreature
