Reasons to get an Anki remote: 1) It’s cute :) they even come in Barbie pink! 2) It’s fun. Doing lots of Anki reviews is not always the most entertaining. Having a remote keeps my hands occupied and helps me stay focused. 3) Perhaps mort importantly, using an Anki remote can help you speed up your reviews. It used to take me a long time to select again vs hard/good/easy on my keyboard, and my time per card was well over 7 seconds. But now, I can click a separate button to control each of these options. This definitely made a huge difference. I can do more reviews, and I also have more time for practice problems because of it! Premed/Prehealth/Med Students: If you are wondering whether you need an Anki Remote, the answer is yes. Yes, you do. Even if you don’t use Anki, this $20 remote also works very well with Quizlet and will make your space repetition study routine MUCH MUCH faster. To set it up, I downloaded Karabiner Elements, a free software program that allows you to program the remote to complete certain functions from your keyboard. Make sure to enable the software to control keyboard strokes in system preferences. Next, you need to pair the remote to your computer via Bluetooth. Simple hold down the ‘start; and top right button key at the same time until the remote flashes blue. The remote should show up as ‘8BitDo Zero 2 gamepad’. Now, it’s time to program! Go into Karabiner Elements and go to “Simple modifications” and select the remote under “Target Devices”. Follow the pairing directions as listed in the video for “From Key” and “To Key”, this will allow the buttons on the remote to perform the Anki Keyboard Functions. How does the Remote Work using this code? - The two white buttons on the top of the remote both correspond to the spacebar. - The ‘X’ key on the remote corresponds to ‘1’ on your keyboard and should be used for the “again” function in Anki. The ‘A’ key on the remote= “hard”, ‘B’= “good”, and ‘Y’=“easy”. - The four directions on the keypad of the remote each correspond to the four direction keys on your keyboard. I use these keys primarily when I am using Quizlet to study!
