If you ignore that signal, you may choose the opposite answer. You have to pay attention to how ideas are connected, not just what the ideas are. Don’t make this common mistake! You don’t have to understand every single word in the Reading paper of the Cambridge English B2 First exam. Quite the opposite, it might make you lose time and confidence. The Reading paper is designed to assess your ability to understand meaning, follow ideas and recognise how information is organised. Trying to translate everything often increases stress and makes it harder to focus on the main message of the text. If you find yourself panicking when you see unfamiliar words, remember that this is completely normal. Reading skills improve when you practise understanding meaning rather than individual words.
