This is one of the consequences I use when my toddlers are physically hurting each other. Sending him to his room gives him the space to calm down and to reflect on his actions. Usually after about 5 minutes he's ready to apologize and be nice to others ❤️ #gentleparent #gentleparenting #gentleparentingtips #gentleparentinglife #toddlertantrums #tantrum #tantrums #parentingstruggles #parentingsupport #parentingskills #parentingtips #momssupportingmoms #momstruggles #momstrugglesarereal #toddlerdevelopment #toddlerlearning #momreels #momlifeunfiltered

Co-regulation is not just a parenting strategy; it’s a profound way we can support our children’s emotional development from the very beginning. When you see a parent, like my husband in this video, soothing and supporting our daughter, you’re witnessing the foundational work that helps her learn to manage her emotions effectively. This nurturing interaction does more than calm her in the moment; it helps her brain form the pathways needed to handle stress and regulate her own emotions as she grows. Research underscores the long-term benefits of this process: children who experience consistent emotional support are better equipped to face life’s challenges, both in and out of the classroom. They develop higher emotional intelligence, greater resilience, and stronger social skills, contributing to their overall well-being and success. By engaging in co-regulation now, we’re not just soothing our children; we’re giving them the tools to thrive emotionally and socially for years to come. #coregulation #coregulate #connection #connectionparenting #consciousmotherhood #consciousparenting #attachmentparenting #peacefulparenting #responsiveparenting #gentleparenting #awareparenting #intentionalparenting #intentionalmotherhood #parentcoach #licensedtherapist #parentsupport #parentadvice

Before reacting to your toddler, pause and think, “what are they trying to do?” So often we jump to stop them in the middle of what is a great lesson for them. Asking myself what my daughter is doing has been a huge change because I am able to put some space between her action and my reaction which helps me respond in a way that is kind and supportive of her emotions. #toddlersofinstagram #toddlersofig #toddlermama #toddlermom #consciousparenting #gentleparenting #consciousmama #consciousparent #gentleparent #gentlemom #toddlerdevelopment #toddlerhood #toddlertip #howtogentleparent

It’s not always easy to stay calm when you’re parenting. But yelling won’t build the relationship you want☝🏻 Here are some tips for raising your kids without losing it🙏🏻

Parents with poor self-regulation skills struggle to respond
3,115,930

Parents with poor self-regulation skills struggle to respond constructively to challenging child behavior, leading to harsh disciplinary methods that can ultimately harm their kids. But those parents who are able to self-regulate raise more emotionally regulated children, leading to improved mental health and well-being. When we can regulate ourselves, our kids learn how to do the same. Every time they see us pause before responding — rather than reacting — they internalize healthy coping mechanisms and communication habits. More importantly, until our children are old enough to self-regulate, they rely on us for their regulation (this is called coregulation). The stronger our regulation skills, the smoother our children’s transition into self-regulation will be. Here are 7 habits of parents who raise emotionally resilient kids: 1. Model calm responses. Kids learn by watching you. Show them how to stay calm under pressure and work through anger constructively. 2. Validate their feelings. Instead of dismissing their anger, say, “It’s okay to feel upset. Let’s talk about it.” This helps them understand emotions are normal and manageable. 3. Teach coping strategies. Breathing exercises, counting to 10, or stepping away for a moment are simple tools to help kids calm down. 4. Help them name their emotions. Saying, “It seems like you’re feeling frustrated,” helps kids build emotional awareness and vocabulary. 5. Set clear boundaries. Teach them that while anger is okay, hitting, yelling, or being destructive isn’t. Show them better ways to express their feelings. 6. Don’t punish anger. Instead of viewing anger as bad behavior, treat it as an opportunity to teach. Help them process what they’re feeling and why. 7. Encourage problem-solving. Ask, “What do you think we can do to fix this?” Empowering kids to find solutions builds confidence and emotional intelligence. By guiding your child through their big emotions with patience and understanding, you’re equipping them with lifelong skills to handle anger in healthy, productive ways.

When you can’t get your kids to do something, threats come out of your mouth. 🚫 “If you don’t clean up those toys there’s no more screen time today!” 🚫 “If you don’t get off the screen now, you will lose it for a week!” 🚫 “If you keep getting C’s, you’re grounded!” And then…your kids gets angrier and doesn’t listen and you don’t follow through with the threat. Then your kids just don’t believe you anymore that you’ll do what you say. Try this instead. Use “When” instead of “if”. It looks like this: ✅ “When you clean up your toys, then I will take you to the park.” ✅ “When you get off the screen without a fight, you can have more tomorrow.” ✅ “When I see you putting in the effort to study every day, then you can go out with your friends.” And I use fancier language: “You’re welcome to…” “Feel free to…” and “I’d be happy to…” ⭐️“You’re welcome to have screen time once your dish is in the dishwasher.” ⭐️ “I’d be happy to read to you as soon as your PJs are on.” It gives kids control AND you can actually follow through with your end easily. Read here👇🏻) 👋🏻 Hi, I’m Akilina! I’m a pediatric occupational therapist and a passionate mom devoted to early childhood development. I’m thrilled to share essential tips for a thriving journey in your child’s growth! This isn’t sorcery or magic. This is deep pressure. It’s a form of proprioceptive input. Proprioception is the sense that helps us understand where our body parts are in space, how they move, and how much force our muscles need to apply. Here you see joint compression Joint compression involves pressing joints together. This actions stimulate the proprioceptive system. This works to regulate and calm the nervous system because it provides sensory feedback that helps organize the brain’s response to stimuli. It can enhance body awareness, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of calm. If you want to introduce this method with your child, do so when your child is in a calm or playful state. This will help them understand it can be used as a coping and calming tool and will make them more comfortable to trying it during tantrums or as a normal part of your bedtime routine. If you’re new here and still haven’t gotten my guide on deep pressure proprioceptive input, comment below 🤍 Let’s continue exploring, learning, and growing together! 👍🏼 #parentingtips #earlydevelopment #occupationaltherapist #nervoussystemregulation #regulation #toddlerhack #sensoryregulation #tantrums #pediatricoccupationaltherapist #childdevelopment #earlydevelopment

River has come so far in learning to regulate his emotions, and sometimes a simple redirection is all it takes. When an understanding ear is enough to help him calm down, there’s no need for a time-out (calm-down break). These are the little wins that show he’s growing.💗 #gentleparenting #gentleparent #motherhood #parenting #parentinglife #parentingtips #parentingadvice #momlife #momlifeishard #momlifeunfiltered #momssupportingmoms #momadvice #toddlerlife #toddlertantrums #toddlerdevelopment #emotionalregulation
