Why I don’t feed my ball pythons live rodents 🐍 As a rescue, I’ve seen firsthand how fast a live rat can cause mouth injuries, scarring, and infection. Rats fight back — and one bite is all it takes. Most healthy ball pythons can thrive on frozen-thawed with proper technique. If there’s a safer option, I’m choosing it. Live feeding should be a last resort — not the default. This isn’t about judging anyone. It’s about reducing risk and protecting the animals in our care. What’s your experience transitioning to frozen-thawed? 👇 #BallPython #BallPythonCare #SnakeFeeding #FrozenThawed #ReptileRescue Herpetoculture SnakeTok ReptileCommunity ResponsibleKeeping

Absolutely no shade at the creator, because it’s funny- I just like to use my words wisely! This is because EVERYONE loves to blame the ball pythons for “feeding strikes” they LOVE to pass the blame instead of figuring out WHY the snake is refusing food. To MANY new keeers go into owning ball pythons believing they’re known for “feeding strikes”. ANY one who disagrees can’t NOT admit there’s something wrong because it hurts their ego. #exoticpets #reptilecare #snakesofinstagram #ballpython #viral

This video shows about python feed! Watch this absolute legend casually feed a whole army of ball pythons like it’s just another Tuesday! In the clip, rows of these stunning (and surprisingly chill) snakes are housed in individual drawers lined with rice—probably for humidity/absorption—and the handler opens them one by one, dropping in prey while the pythons strike with lightning speed. Some go straight for the meal, others play hard to get, and at least one seems to tag the guy's hand... but he doesn’t even flinch. Pure composure. Ball pythons are known for being relatively docile compared to other constrictors, but handling this many at once in such a setup takes serious experience (and nerves of steel). The rice layer helps maintain the perfect moist environment these African natives need, and the drawer system keeps everything organized—though some viewers felt bad seeing them "locked in drawers" . Others were just amazed at the handler's vibe, comparing him to a Viking warrior who’s unfazed by fangs. This is reptile keeping on another level—whether you're into snakes, exotic pets, or just wild animal content, it’s mesmerizing and a little intense. Questions flying in the replies: Why rice? (Humidity control + easy cleanup.) Why so many? (Likely a breeder or large collection.) What happens if one gets hangry? (We saw a mini bite and zero drama.) If you love creepy-crawly thrills, nature’s predators, or just content that makes you say “how is he so calm?!”, smash that like/RT. Tag your snake-fearing friends—they need to see this What’s your take? Brave or bonkers? Would you ever try feeding one? Drop your reactions below! Feeding frozen thawed rodents is one of the safest and most
13,621

Feeding frozen thawed rodents is one of the safest and most responsible ways to feed your ball python. In this video we break down why frozen thawed feeding reduces injury risk, improves hydration, and supports long-term ball python care and husbandry. Live feeding carries real risks. Rodents bite, scratch, and can cause severe wounds, infections, and permanent damage to your snake. Frozen thawed rodents completely eliminate that danger while still triggering a strong feeding response when warmed correctly to natural prey body temperature. There’s another benefit most keepers overlook: hydration. When you properly thaw frozen rodents in warm water, the prey item absorbs moisture. That moisture transfers to your snake during digestion, helping support hydration, proper shedding, kidney health, and overall metabolic function. For species like ball pythons that naturally live in sub-Saharan Africa and rely on humid microclimates like burrows and termite mounds, maintaining internal hydration is critical for long-term health. Proper ball python care is about more than just feeding. It’s about stable temperatures, consistent humidity between 55–65 percent with higher humidity during shed, secure hides, clutter for security, and a controlled light cycle. When husbandry is dialed in, most “feeding problems” disappear. Refusals are usually stress related or seasonal fasting behavior, not stubbornness. Frozen thawed feeding supports: • Injury prevention • Controlled prey size • Biosecurity and parasite reduction • Better hydration support • Safer long-term husbandry practices If you’re serious about improving your ball python husbandry, reducing feeding mistakes, and understanding the science behind proper reptile care Make sure to follow along! 🎯 #exoticpets #reptilecare #snakesofinstagram #reptilesofinstagram #viral

An $8,000 ball python that never got to take its first breath 😞 This is one of the hardest parts of breeding ball pythons, or any animals, and something that never gets easier, no matter how long you do this. Unfortunately, this extremely rare baby didn’t make it out of the egg. I don’t have an answer as to why, and that uncertainty is often the hardest part. What hurts the most isn’t the dollar value, it’s the fact that this was a dream animal of mine. One I worked toward, envisioned, and planned to keep here for the long run. Moments like this are absolutely crushing, and it’s a side of breeding that most people never see or talk about. I’ll be honest, this one really broke my heart and made me question everything. But at the end of the day, working with animals means accepting both the highs and the lows. Just because it didn’t go the way I hoped this time doesn’t mean the dream is gone forever. We learn, we keep pushing forward, and when the time is right, we try again. 💔🐍
