Here are your tips if you’re getting ready for your first high school tryout, or any tryout at all: 1. Freshman, do not wear your 14U hat. The coach might have a bad association with it, don’t risk it. 2. Dress like a ball player. That means shirt tucked in, baseball belt, pants and socks and a short sleeve shirt with long sleeves underneath. That way if it’s chilly or you go outside you are prepared. 3. Bring plenty of water. There’s probably going to be a water fountain around, but it helps a lot if you have your own water. 4. If you don’t know the coach before the tryout, introduce yourself when you get there and say thank you when you leave. It sticks out and helps them remember you, if you don’t do it they probably aren’t going to remember you. Use code “CHIPS” for free shipping from Bruce Bolt.⚡️ 5. Hustle to pick up baseballs. It sticks out to coaches who is lazy and doesn’t want to do the bare minimum of picking up baseballs. 6. Bring your own bat, batting gloves, helmet, baseball glove. If you don’t have these things talk to a friend or upperclassman before hand. Show that you are prepared. Use code “VELOCHIPS” to get 10% off your Velo Tee bag.⚾️ 7. Hustle everywhere. If it comes down to two players who are even, and one hustles while the other one doesn’t, they are going to take the hustle guy. Coaches don’t want to coach effort. 8. Understand the moment you walk in, someone is watching you. You are always making an impression. Use code “CHIPS10” for 10% off at Old Hickory.🔥 #baseball #baseballlife #highschoolbaseball #hitting #baseballseason #travelball #baseballtraining #baseballmom #baseballgame

Infielders Tips To Start Training Your Eyes Here are some ways to train your eyes ✅Reaction Drills ✅ Counting Ground Ball Hops ✅Catch & Hold Drills The majority of fielding errors happen because players take their eyes off the ball too soon. Focusing & staying locked in on the ball from the time the pitchers delivers the ball until the ball hits your glove is the key to clean defense. Here are some teaching cues to help you track the ball into your glove every time. 1. “See it in, see it out.” Track the ball all the way into your glove and all the way out on the throw. 2. “Eyes first, glove second.” Your glove follows your eyes. If you don’t see the ball, you won’t catch it. 3. “Read the writing on the ball.” If you can see the seams or logo, you’re truly focused. #infielders#baseballcoach#baseballdrills#baseballtraining#infield#baseballplayers#baseballdad

The biggest mistake first basemen make when picking throws is losing eye position on the baseball and striding too early. When you keep your eyes behind the ball and control your footwork at first base, you stay athletic through the catch and put yourself in the best possible fielding position. Use code “CHIPS” for 25% off Triple Crown Jewelry👑 Fix these two fundamentals and you will immediately improve your first base defense, ball picking ability, and consistency receiving throws. This is how great first basemen separate themselves on defense. #baseball #baseballlife #baseballseason #baseballswag #baseballgame

If your bat hits the wall you’re not on plane. You’re dipping. Dropping the back shoulder leads to pop-ups and weak contact. This drill forces: ✅ proper hand slot ✅ barrel matching pitch plane ✅ no shoulder dump 📌 Save this for your next cage session

I Stopped Doing These ⬇️ 1️⃣ Being Unprepared I stopped walking into games without a plan and started studying pitchers tendencies, pitch sequences, and how they try to get hitters out. Knowing exactly what to expect lets you anticipate pitches instead of guessing. Being prepared gives you confidence and lets you stay composed even in high-pressure at-bats. 2️⃣ Making Big Adjustments I stopped trying to make big adjustments mid-game and started trusting my prep while making small feel-based tweaks. Overcomplicating your swing during live at-bats will throw you off. Keeping it simple ensures your swing stays consistent even against elite arms. 3️⃣ Selling Out For Fastballs I stopped selling out for fastballs early in counts and trained my eyes to pick up spin and depth on offspeed pitches. Recognizing offspeed early keeps you balanced and on time. Staying patient makes you a tougher hitter to fool and prevents bad habits from forming. 4️⃣ Having Only One Approach I stopped approaching every at-bat the same way and started adjusting based on game context. Adapt your approach to the situation to swing smarter. Winning the pitch becomes more important than trying to hit every ball hard. 5️⃣ Changing My Routine I stopped changing my routine when things got tough and committed to the work I had already put in. A consistent pre-pitch routine anchors you during stressful moments. Trusting your preparation naturally builds confidence at the plate. I stopped worrying about what others thought and focused on my process. Stick to your plan, trust your preparation, and compete every pitch ✅ #baseball #hitting #college #highschool #youth

Here’s the deal… There’s 1,000 ways to throw a baseball, but some ways are better than others. Many guys throw with a longer arm action and they make it work without a problem. Other guys do it and it’s a disaster. The idea is to be as explosive as possible while being as balanced as possible. And that means efficiency matters. So try out a shorter arm action and see what happens. Drills to train a short arm action: -throwing a football -throwing like a shortstop -step off pick to 3B (1B for lefties) #pitchingdrills

⬇️ Tips & A Story ⬇️ Thumb Tuck Fastball Story I had never heard of this until college, then one day I saw an article about big time pitchers doing my this. That day I tucked my thumb on my fastball, threw several innings of shutout baseball against U of Hawaii and literally never stopped. Some people can do this, some can’t, dependent on their hand size and thumb flexibility. But pitchers like Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Jacob DeGrom all tuck the thumb on their fastball. Tips ⬇️ Thumb Tuck Fastball ☄️ - Try to release from both fingertips at the same time. - I try and pull straight down on the seams to create 12:00 backspin. - Every other pitch should be thrown with the same intesity. Power Circle Change ⭕️ - Same arm speed as fastball. - Pinky up on the side to prevent slipping out the side. - Slight pronation at release. Curveball ⤵️ - Throw it hard like a fastball, and at release, supinate and pull down on that seam with your middle finger. - Some people take their index finger off the ball, but I wouldn’t, to make sure the hitter couldn’t see that coming. Slider 🛝 - As a supinator, this is my best and most accurate pitch. - I try and get my hand as far to the side of the ball as I can while still maintaining maximum grip strength on the ball. Cutter (or Cut Fastball) 🔪 - I hold mine exactly the same as a fastball, but with the ball sitting crooked in my hand. - Try and “turn the doorknob” a bit, or supinate at release. #Baseball #Pitcher #Pitching #Reels #Explore #Breakdown
