BASIL OIL 🌿 The perfect way to use up a tonne of fresh basil, especially if you’re looking for something else to make other than pesto! It adds a beautiful fresh flavour and instantly elevates any dish. Ingredients 1 bunch fresh basil, leaves only Neutral oil (I used avocado - see step 4 for exact ratios) Method: 1. Bring a pot of water to a boil and prepare an ice bath on the side. Rinse the leaves well then add to the water and blanch for 10-15 seconds until wilted and vibrant green. 2. Immediately transfer the basil into an ice bath to stop the cooking and preserve the colour. 3. Once cooled, drain and squeeze out as much water as possible and transfer into a blender with twice the amount of oil by weight (a 1:2 ratio of basil to oil). For example, if using 100g basil, add 200mL oil. The more oil you use, the milder the flavour will be and vice versa. Blend until completely smooth. 4. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, cheesecloth or coffee filter and allow it to slowly strain, separating the oil from the pulp. 5. Transfer the leftover pulp to a jar, top with a little oil, cover and store in the fridge. It’s perfect stirred through pasta or spread onto toast (you can season with a pinch of salt if you like). 6. Transfer the oil into a clean jar or squeeze bottle and store in the fridge. Use within 3-5 days for best freshness, or up to 1 week. #plantbased #veganrecipes #easyrecipes #basiloil #basil

THE BASIL TRICK 🌿 1. Never water the soil, only water the saucer 2. Always keep the saucer full 3. Never pluck, always trim the stem just above a leaf Some other helpful tips: 4. Use an XL saucer or bowl. It will drink what it needs! 5. Repotting into a bigger pot will mean a bigger basil! Use normal potting soil. You can split supermarket plants into multiple pots if you want. Make sure the top of the soil is dry before you start under watering. 6. This works best in the warmer months and INDOORS! 7. Basil loves a sunny spot 🌞 8. Wait until your basil is growing before you trim 9. Give it time - these plants are three to four months old 10. Once it’s big, trimming will keep your basil healthy and bushy. Trim off any flowers immediately! 11. I use terracotta pots and water impermeable saucers. SUPERMARKET BASIL: step-by-step 🌿 1. Plant your supermarket basil (or even just half of one — gently rip it apart at the soil) in a terracotta pot with a drainage hole in normal potting soil. You’ll need an over-sized saucer or bowl. 2. Water thoroughly once from above and allow it to fully drain out. 3. Put it in a warm, sunny spot indoors. 4. Over the next few days, check the top of the soil. If it’s damp or moist, do nothing. Once it’s dry, fill the XL saucer with water and from now on, keep that saucer full of water. If the top of the soil is dry, it’ll drink what it needs from below! 5. Try not to use your basil until it’s actively growing. Then, use it by snipping off a stem just above a leaf (don’t pluck!). 6. Once it’s growing, snipping the tops off to use it will keep it healthy and definitely snip off any flowers. Let me know if you have any questions! #basil #basilic #herbs #homegrown

BASIL IS THE EASIEST PLANT TO PROPAGATE & MULTIPLY FOR FREE! All you need are cuttings from a basil plant and a glass of water! You can try this with grocery store basil too! HERE’S HOW TO PROPAGATE BASIL: 👇 🌱1. Take cuttings of healthy, non-flowering basil stems. Cut a 4 to 6 inch long stem, leaving small baby leaves intact on the mother plant to continue growing. 🌱2. Strip off the leaves from the bottom 2 to 3 inches of the stem. 🌱3. Place it in a glass of water making sure that no leaves are submerged under water. 🌱4. Change the water every 2 days. 🌱5. Roots should start developing in 7 to 10 days. Once roots are about an inch or two long, transplant into a well draining pot or container that’s filled with rich, fluffy, organic soil. You can also transplant into the garden after your last frost date has passed. Watch your basil cuttings grow and enjoy the harvests! If your basil always dies after you bring it home from the garden center… this is probably why. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT MY FAVORITE TOMATO SOUP RECIPE. IT’S SO GOOD WITH FRESH BASIL 🍅🌿 Those little pots are actually packed with a bunch of plants all crammed together, so they’re basically competing for water, sunlight, and space… What I always do (and it works every time) is - grab the fullest pot, then when I get home I gently separate all the plants. I try to keep the root ball as intact as possible, - I replant them into their own pots with fresh soil. It feels a little tedious, but it makes such a difference. - Once they each have their own space, they grow so much bigger and don’t dry out nearly as fast. Just give them a sunny spot, water consistently (not too much), and trim them often—and you’ll have basil that actually lasts instead of dying in a week 🌿 #gardeningtips #basil #tradwife #garden
