Red bean paste is a common ingredient in Asian desserts. I like making my own because I can adjust the amount of sugar and type of fat in it. Comment “recipe please” to get the link DMed to you! You can also tap the link in my profile. I just realized that I called this paste “紅豆沙” instead of “豆沙” in my voiceover, and it’s wrong! 紅豆沙 is the soupy red bean dessert. Oops! 😬 Cooking notes: - my mom actually makes red bean paste with kidney beans now. She says the slightly slimy texture of the beans helps make a sticky, more moist paste. - I’ve added walnut oil and coconut oil to give the paste more aroma but feel free to sub with any oil. - type of sugar to use: sugars with more complex flavors will yield a more interesting bean paste, in my opinion. I got the Chinese brown sugar from @99ranchmarket but you can also use something like coconut sugar or even jaggery. - the paste freezes very well! If I store this in the fridge, I try to use it within a week. Then I freeze leftovers. Red bean paste I made Red bean paste to make many different sweets! This takes time to boil the beans, but it's truely timeworthy to make a big portion and keep in fridge. Ingredients Red bean 500g Sugar 250g Salt 2g Process 1. Rinse the amount of beans two to three times and boil in a pot for two hours. (Add more water several times when the boiling water dries out) 2. Move the boiled beans and water to a bowl, add the sugar and grind with handy blender. (You don't have to grind too thinly) 3. If it's not pastey enough, move to a pan, keep stirfrying on a heat till it's thick enough. #redbeanpaste #mochi #dorayaki
