Trying roses for the first time 🌹 My bare root roses arrived, so I’m potting them up with rose compost and a little rooting powder to help them establish. These might look like sticks now… but hopefully they’ll be full of blooms this summer. Follow along to see how they grow. #barerootroses #roseplanting #ukgardening #gardenjourney #gardeningtips 🌿

This is the easiest way to plant roses 🌹 Whether you are planting in pots or starting your own rose garden - pulp pots make it simple. They are all pruned back so you don’t have to worry much about thorny stems and they can focus on their roots. Before you know it - your rose will be blooming! Do you like planting pulp pot (sometimes called bare root) roses during winter? #barerootroses #rosegarden #containergarden #zone10

What a glorious day to pot up my new collection of retired @david_austin_roses These have just gone into temporary pots for now before I make a start on the new rose garden. I had to trim a couple of stems so I’ve popped them in compost to try root them and make some new roses for free! I soaked my roses for 2 days but a minimum of 3 hours is sufficient. These pots are 10l so plenty room for now - just like you would see a potted rose in a garden centre if not a bit bigger. I used peat free compost for these and when I put them in the ground I will add some mycorrhizal funghi to assist root development. All happy and I’ve made them a nice space on the patio for now. Hubby was asking about them too which was nice so I got to bore him with my rose knowledge. I’ve tidied the patio a small bit so you can move around it now and I also tidied in and around the greenhouse. And… we got to sit and enjoy the sunshine and the birds for a hot minute 🥰 #roses #davidaustinroses #barerootroses #mygardentoday #gardeningismytherapy

🌹 Deadheading roses in summer 🌹 This small cut sets up your next flush of blooms. How I do it: 1️⃣ Follow the stem down to the first set of 5 leaves 2️⃣ Choose an outward facing node, that’s where the new branch will grow 3️⃣ Cut just above the node at a slight angle This keeps the plant open, encourages strong new growth, and leads to better flowers next round. Prune with intention and let the rose do the rest 🌸 #RoseCare #DeadheadingRoses #SummerPruning #GardenTips #UrbanFarmer_sa

New border loading… I needed to find a new home for the rose I dug up last week, and I think this is the perfect spot. This is the area I’m reworking, which means I get a fresh new border too — bonus! It’s too cold to move much else right now, but this is actually the perfect time to move a rose. And don’t forget — add mycorrhizal fungi to your planting hole for a healthier, happier rose 🌹 Are you planting any roses ? #roseofinstagram #wintergardenjobs #gardenborder #scottishgardens #gardenadvice
