Seeing someone live openly and happily as non-binary allowed me to explore my own identity and give a label to something I always felt but couldn’t explain. 🎭 Why Am I So Single? 📍 Garrick Theatre 🎟️ Gifted ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Earlier this week, I watched the brand-new musical created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss! 💖 The musical follows two, single, best friends, Nancy and Oliver, who are also musical theatre writers! They procrastinate on ideas for their next project, before deciding to create an extravagant show based on the struggles of modern dating! The musical takes us on a fun, and little bit chaotic journey, celebrating a heartfelt friendship – I loved it! 📱 The show features niche TV & theatre references and the all-too-relatable dating dilemmas the lead characters experience. The scene about dating apps was so accurate, that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud – it was brilliant! The simple set was brought to life by the ensemble who humorously portrayed inanimate objects, while Jai Morjaria’s lighting came in handy for the distinguishing those fourth wall breaks. 🎶 Marlow & Moss know how to write great songs! The show is jam-packed with them; some could be (👀🐝) a bit more than random than others, but I still enjoyed the variety of genres! There was rock, ballads, upbeat dance & pop –which were all very catchy! My highlights were ‘Disco Ball’, ‘8 Dates’ and ‘C U Never’ performed by the brilliant Noah Thomas and ensemble in a fun tap dancing number! 💖 Jo Foster & Leesa Tulley star as the leads, along with the enthusiastic cast. Jo Foster was incredible on stage! They radiated charisma, provided all the laughs and delivered flawless vocals! I wish there had been more character development. Act 2 felt quite rushed, and one character’s decision seemed farfetched. ✨ Nonetheless, I appreciated the honest display of a friendship, & the realities of how difficult finding love can be.
