The incredibly rare Southern Blue Devil 🐟 This is one of the most vibrantly coloured animals I have ever encountered, the Southern Blue Devil, which is endemic to the southern coast of Australia. And while I have had the pleasure of meeting one of its cousins plenty of times, the Eastern Blue Devil, this was my first time meeting the Southern variety. The Eastern Blue Devil is a protected species here in Australia, but unfortunately the Southern Blue Devil is not, despite being considered a ‘bucket list’ animals for divers and photographers around the world 😔 This species typically enjoys living in caves, or under rocky overhangs, and can often be found propping themselves up on their adapted pectoral fins like a tripod (as shown in the final clip).
