In the early 1990s, a Japanese engineer named Shuji Nakamura successfully created a bright and efficient blue LED using a material called gallium nitride, building on earlier research by Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amano. This invention was very important because blue LED made it possible to create white LED light by mixing blue light with other colors, which is now used in mobile screens, laptops, TVs, LED bulbs, and street lights.
