Building more custom oak slat panels in the shop. This one will mount directly to the wall with cutouts for an outlet and light switch. One more coat of finish before installation. Clean lines, real wood, made to fit the space.

Preparing a small sample of White Oak Plywood for an upcoming project. Part of the process is applying Edge Banding to the ends to make a smooth finish. In this process, I use a mini Iron set to the “Cotton” setting to achieve the temperature of 350-400 degrees F. This temperature will allow for the edge banding to adhere properly to the surface. Everyone has “whoops” moments. John got a little enthusiastic with the router cutting an outlet into this oak slat… and the slat split. Real wood will keep you humble. No big deal. We swapped it out and kept moving. Custom work means you own the mistakes and make them right.

These clear, quarter sawn white oak planks are getting some thinned out exterior finish on. I told myself I have to get to the bench job first sign of snow melting. Here we are. Hoping to have fully finished and assembled by Sunday . White oak never disappoints. Though purchasing it in whole slab, raw form, there is a bit of waste. But the keepers are well worth the effort. I’m going to pick up a couple more of these slabs for future projects 🤘
