One of the most famous burials at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah is little Gracie. Even 132 years later, people still come to this cemetery to visit her. Which is incredible by the way.⁣ ⁣ Gracie Watson was born in 1883 to W. J. and Francis Watson. Her parents came to Savannah to manage the luxurious Pulaski Hotel. It was considered one of the best hotels in the south. ⁣ ⁣ At six years old, Gracie became quite the attention-getter in the hotel and she would dance around and put on little shows for the guests.⁣ ⁣ Sadly, in 1889, she became very ill with pneumonia and died. Her family and the town were heart-broken. Her father went into a deep depression and she was buried in their family plot there in Bonaventure. ⁣ ⁣ Her father had a sculpture created by John Walz in her honor. He used a photograph of the little girl as a reference and it’s said that it’s a life size replica of her. It now sits on her gravesite.⁣ ⁣ After her death, her father left his position managing the hotel and her parents moved back to New England. She was the only one of her family buried in this plot. Gracie is at the Bonaventure Cemetery, which is one of the most beautiful and peaceful cemeteries.
