A teeny walk with a MASSIVE view 👀 🍂 Another pint-sized Windermere gem, this time the lovely Brant Fell from Bowness. Autumn is my favourite time to do this walk - MUCH more chilled out than summer, and the colourful views over Windermere during autumn are tough to beat! It’s an easy but surprisingly varied walk, with a fantastic craggy summit that’ll make kids feel like they’ve conquered a ‘proper’ mountain, despite the tiny climb. Added bonus, it tends to be quieter than nearby Orrest Head and Gummer’s How, so ideal if you like your walks a bit less people-y! 📍 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗽 🗺️ @ordnancesurvey route in bio, or comment 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗧 for the link! 🚗 Rayrigg Road (LA23 3BZ) 🥾 3.5km walk / 150m ascent 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗽 🚗 Start this walk from anywhere in Bowness (including the jetty if arriving by @windermerelakecruises boat!). I’d suggest parking at Rayrigg Road - big car park, easy to reach, and drops you right in the centre of town. 🥾 You’ll start with a short stretch of pavement walking up the helpfully named Brantfell Road, before joining the footpath marked Post Knott (if you fancy a quick detour, head to the Biskey Howe viewpoint first - 50m in the other direction!). 🌳 Once you join this trail the walk is straightforward to navigate, with signposts dotted around to help. The first stretch climbs through Post Knott woods before reaching the fellside, where the view really starts to open up! It’s consistently uphill, but very gentle and steady - if kids have managed Orrest Head or similar, they’ll be grand with this. ⛰️ For the last bit of ascent, just head up the grassy slope! You can’t miss the craggy summit, which adds a fun bit of drama for kids and provides excellent clambering about opportunities. Perfect picnic spot, and the summit scenes are IMMENSE - you’re about halfway up Windermere here, with sweeping views in both directions up and down the lake. 🚢 You can head back down the way you came, or take our circular route to drop you at the lakeshore (look out for the tree swing on the way!). Boat spotting, duck feeding, and drop into @lakeviewgardenbar too - perfect.
