Braille literacy has been a game-changer for Khara. When you are a braille reader, navigating the world without braille can be a challenge.  As a braille reader, Khara gains access to education and different languages, giving her the independence and inclusion that every child deserves. Braille is not just a way to read; it’s the key to breaking down barriers and unlocking opportunities.   For Khara, learning braille is important to her success in school and beyond. Her amazing Teachers for the Visually Impaired and dedicated braille transcriber help ensure her assignments are accessible, allowing her to learn alongside sighted classmates. She knows that braille literacy is not just about reading—it’s about access, empowerment, and equal opportunities.   Khara is the only student in her classes who reads braille, and while this can sometimes feel isolating, it also drives her to share the importance of braille with others. She’s proud to teach her classmates how she reads and writes. She has learned so much since she started learning braille around 4 years old. She started with tactile awareness to learn the feel of the dots/braille letters to read braille and now she has mastered the braille code.
