Imposter syndrome is something many of us who’ve had a preventative double mastectomy experience within the breast cancer community. It’s easy to feel like we don’t fully belong because we made the choice to reduce our risk, rather than receiving a cancer diagnosis. But the truth is, we face our own emotional, physical, and mental challenges in making that decision, and our experiences are valid. The anxiety, fear, and recovery are real. We took brave, proactive steps to protect ourselves and our future, and that strength makes us part of this community too. If you’ve ever felt like an “imposter” for doing what was necessary for your health, know you’re not alone. We all have a place here. #BRCA #BRCAbaddie #breastcancerawareness #previvor #aestheticflatclosure #doublemastectomy #mastectomy #bodypositivity #womenempowerment #healthadvocate #flattie #flattiebaddie

I don’t talk about my motherhood often on here but I wanted to share something. When I was told I was brca1 positive and had an almost 90% chance of getting breast cancer in my lifetime, I was a first time new mom. my son was 6 months old. I sat in my doctors office listening to her tell me my choices of preventative care and the loudest voice I heard was my own. I would do anything, give anything, to make that percentage go down as low as possible if it meant potentially being able to live on this earth longer. I made my choice. I can handle people thinking that I’m ugly, that my scars should be covered at the beach, people not agreeing with what I choose to do with my body. what I couldn’t handle is if I had the power to make a choice to be able to watch my son grow up and I got breast cancer all because I chose vanity instead. I couldn’t live with myself. #brca1 #alopeciaawareness #mastectomy #motherhoodunfiltered #genetichealth #radicalselflove #bodyafterbaby #healingoutloud #selfadvocacy #scarstory #cancerprevention #realmotherhood #brca #mybodymychoice #womenshealthmatters

Most don’t know what it’s like to choose surgery to stay alive. To decide to remove something that hasn’t hurt you yet, just because it might. To trust the statistics. To protect your children. To say goodbye to the body that once nourished them. This wasn’t a cosmetic choice. This was a life choice. I did this for my future. For my family. For me. 💖 For every woman facing the impossible, I see you. 🫶 #BRCA2 #PrevivorStrong #BRCA #BRCA1 #MastectomyJourney #HereditaryCancer #BRCAAwareness #GeneticTesting #previvor

A little 8 month update for anyone who watched my prophylactic double mastectomy surgery last year😊 Definitely a character building year and it’s still different looking in the mirror. A lot of confusion and a little harder healing mentally but now I feel like I’m in such a better state of mind. The nerve pain has been daily since I got the surgery, but that was a given and it’s not unbearable. The worst is when there’s any running or jumping working out. I had an option to have the reconstructive surgery (which I did) and there’s so many pros and cons to both. I have never felt “fully normal” since EVER having a foreign object in my body. And I’m actually kind of looking forward to the day I decide to take them out. The only downside is having nothing.. which is different as a women and it’s hard to understand until you’ve had a part of you physically taken away. Besides all of this.. I do have less worry and more peace of mind of living a long and fuller life. It also pushes me to continue to do all of the wellness preventative things now rather than waiting until it’s too late 🌿😊 happy Wednesday and if you guys have any questions or are thinking about this particular surgery.. don’t hesitate to reach out or comment :) #momsofinstagram #mastectomy #doublemastectomy #surgery #brca #prevention #heath #wellness

It’s been exactly 7 years since my double mastectomy. I don’t have a lot of pictures of that time because it was the most painful and challenging experience that I’ve ever endured. I remember thinking “I don’t know how/when I’m going to feel better” but as time went on I eventually did. Then there were the expanders, which were a completely different experience that was also very painful. There were so many things that I was unable to do post-mastectomy + during the expander phase and I couldn’t wait for it to all be over. Fast forward to today: I think it’s normal to see someone like me and think “wow, she promoting health and fitness but has fake implants” when the decision to get them was strictly FOR my heath. So this serves as a reminder for me (and hopefully you too) to not judge people, we don’t know their circumstances. Side note-I have NOTHING against implants and who knows, I maybe would have chosen to get them later on in life! The purpose of this post is to simply remind you all that there is ALWAYS a light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it’s so far away that you can barely see it, but it’s there ✨ So many of workout outfits + swimsuits from this post are from @shopvitality 🫶🏼 And a huge shoutout to my mom and Corey for taking care of me during the hardest days of post-op 🩷 . . #brca #brca1 #mastectomy #doublemastectomy #breastimplants #awareness #journey #teacher #teachersofinstagram #fitteacher #teacherswholift
