How did you handle it when your sibling or child was ready for genetic testing? When my 22 year old little sister @camrynamore told me she was ready to get tested for the BRCA mutation, before we did anything else, I suggested we go on walk. Long walks and deep talks have always been our thing and I didn’t want to make this moment feel more intense than it needed to with a sit down. Even though she said she was feeling good about testing, I still felt a responsibility to prepare her for what might be ahead, in case she tested positive. I couldn’t help but think about how much my life changed after getting my results… But when I was thinking about what I wanted to say, I realized it wasn’t my job to go over her potential risk, overwhelm her with every fact, every outcome, every “what if.” I have learned so much over the last eight years, it’s hard sometimes to know which hat to wear. But I’m reminding myself that Cammy doesn’t need me to be an expert, my most important role is just being her sister and there is a very fine line between protecting and projecting. To help take the pressure off me to get it all “right”, I’m helping her find the right team, starting with a genetic counselor (something I never had) and just taking it one step at a time 🤍 #brca #genetictesting

After seeing my doctor today and getting bloodwork, I found out one of the side effects of Lynparza ( the maintenance drug I am taking ) is a dangerously low white blood cell count. Mine is below 2.5, when it should be at least at 5. For now, it means going home, resting, staying away from people, and pausing Lynparza until we retest on Tuesday along with a PET scan. Where my count is right now puts me at risk for serious infection, including sepsis, so we’re being very careful. This is not how I expected today to go, but here we are. Quand on apprend qu’on est pas invincible à 34 ans, on a dès lors toujours envie de se dépasser! C’est pourquoi, quand @marie_kohlanta2020 a lancé l’idée de monter les marches de la Butte du Lion de Waterloo, en soutien à toutes les femmes qui se battent encore au quotidien et celles qui ont rejoint les étoiles après un combat acharné, je me devais de répondre présente ! Sur place, des femmes (et des hommes) tous super déterminés, peu importe leur niveau, à se dépasser pour cette cause qui nous tient à cœur ! Retour en vidéos sur ce défi sportif caritatif où les fonds ont été reversé à l’association Pô Zen qui accueille les patients oncologiques et hématologiques de l’hôpital de Nivelles. Merci à eux pour leur travail au quotidien. Merci de faire avancer la recherche et merci pour toutes ces personnes qui se battent pour les malades au quotidien. Au final, j’avançais dans ce nouveau défi sans m’avoir réellement fixé d’objectifs. Enfin juste un. Ne pas abandonner et ne pas m’arrêter. Tout en douceur, c’est 31 fois que j’ai monté la butte, 14.074 marches, 1000+ de dénivelé, mais surtout, des sourires, des battants, de la bienveillance et des encouragements ! ♥️ Je ne peux que vous conseiller de participer à des événements du genre ! Mein letzter Termin in der Onkologie. So dachte ich… 6 Monate Chemotherapie, diverse Operationen, Bestrahlung, 7 Jahre Östrogenblocker (Tamoxifen) und ich dachte damit ist das Kapitel Brustkrebs beendet. Und dann saß ich da vorhin beim Onkologen, der mir erklärte, dass er mich bei meiner Historie lieber noch 3 weitere Jahre sehen möchte bis ich die 10 Jahre voll habe. Kurz musste ich schlucken. War kurz verwirrt und wusste nicht wie mit der Situation umzugehen. „Aber ich bin doch durch mit allem?“. Dann erklärte er mir noch einmal meinen genauen Befund. Irgendwie war ich überzeugt, dass ich da ich einen sehr teilungsfreudigen Tumor hatte (der es schließlich bis in die Lymphknoten geschafft hatte), ich damit auch gleichzeitig einen schnellwachsenden Tumor hatte. Schaut man sich meine Arztberichte aber genauer an (und danke, dass ich einen Onkologen habe der dies gewissenhaft tut) sieht man dass mein Tumor zwar teilungsfreudig, aber eher langsam wachsend war. Und die Statistiken zeigen, dass Frauen mit Triple-negativen Tumor oder HER2-positiven ein höheres Rückfall-Risiko in den ersten 5 Jahren haben. Hormonrezeptorpositive Tumore hingegen, wie meiner, sind total hinterlistig und kommen still und heimlich als Spätrezidive oft auch erst nach >5 Jahren. Ooomph! Wieso ich für diese Erkenntnis heute trotzdem dankbar bin? Weil mir das mal wieder bestätigt hat wie gewissenhaft mein Onkologe ist und wie sehr ich ihn für diese direkte Art schätze. Und natürlich sind es nochmal 3 weitere Jahre in denen ich großzügig durchgecheckt werde. Präventiv in vielerlei Hinsicht sicher nicht schlecht 😉 und ich weiß was ich alles für meinen Körper tue und wie er mir auch dies dankt! 🙏 Doch ich bin ehrlich: Ich hätte diese Tür heute gern ein für alle Mal geschlossen - 10x abgeschlossen und den Schlüssel weit weit weit weg geworfen. Aber so einfach ist es dann scheinbar doch nicht… Mein Appell also an euch: Seid dankbar für den heutigen Tag! Seid dankbar für eure Gesundheit! Eu am făcut acest test genetic pentru cancer și așa am aflat că port mutația BRCA2 — una dintre cele mai frecvente cauze de cancer mamar și cancer ovarian ereditar. Pentru mine, informarea a venit după un cancer de sân deja trăit… și exact de aceea azi aleg prevenția.Azi fac o operație preventivă: îndepărtarea ovarelor (profilaxie ovariană) pentru a reduce riscul de cancer ovarian și pentru a-mi crește șansele de sănătate pe termen lung. Nu e ușor, nu e plăcut, dar e decizia corectă când ai un risc genetic confirmat prin testare BRCA. Și dacă tot intru în menopauză chirurgicală, măcar să spun că o fac cu umor și cu un plan. 😅 Foarte multe femei nu știu că: • cancerul genetic se poate depista printr-o simplă analiză de sânge • testarea BRCA1 și BRCA2 îți arată dacă ai risc crescut de cancer mamar și ovarian • prevenția în cancer înseamnă screening, monitorizare și decizii informate • cu cât afli mai devreme, cu atât poți acționa mai bineDacă ai istoric de cancer în familie sau te întrebi dacă ai un risc genetic, caută informații despre testarea genetică pentru cancer. My friends are getting married. They’re having babies. They’re planning weddings, nurseries, and futures. And I’m having cancer. Next week, I have an appointment to talk about removing my ovaries. And gradually, the reality hits a little harder: I may never have the future I once imagined. It’s a strange kind of whiplash — watching life move forward in such beautiful, ordinary ways, while mine is measured in appointments, scans, and treatment plans. I am genuinely happy for them. And at the same time, I’m grieving the version of this chapter I thought I would be living. Cancer doesn’t just interrupt your body. It interrupts your timeline, and your future. Some days, that’s the hardest part — not just the treatment, but the quiet reckoning with how different life can become, so quickly. But this is still my life. Still unfolding. Just differently.
