#California Roll Method Tutorial

I recently made California Rolls because the girls requested it and I also wanted to get more practice rolling. I don’t make sushi rolls at home often so it can use a lot of practice! California roll is a type of sushi roll that typically includes seasoned rice, imitation crab (or real crab), avocado, and cucumber. It’s also the base for many sushi rolls out there. I added tobiko on a few because I love the taste and texture. I experimented with making the rolls with 1/2 sheet and 3/4 sheet nori. For the 1/2 sheet, I used about 2.5 ounces of sushi rice and for the 3/4 sheet, I used about 4 ounces of rice. Seemed to be a good ratio but you can experiment and do what works best for you. CA Roll Ingredients: 5 cups cooked Sushi Rice 6-8 sheets of Nori (dried seaweed)
2 avocados, sliced 
4 Persian cucumbers, sliced 
1 pound imitation crab, finely chopped 
Sesame seeds Tobiko, optional Sushi Rice Ingredients: 5 cups cooked medium grain Calrose rice
1/2 cup rice vinegar 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt Imitation Crab Mixture Ingredients: 1 pound imitation crab, finely chopped 
1/2 cup Kewpie Mayonnaise 
1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon honey Steps: Prep Ingredients: Make sushi rice. Peel avocados, remove the pit, and cut into strips. Peel cucumber and cut into strips Make Imitation Crab Mixture: Put finely chopped imitation crab in a bowl and mix with mayonnaise. Season with salt and a little honey to taste. Make CA Rolls: Put 1/2 sheet or 3/4 sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat, smooth side up. Spread 2.5-4 ounces of sushi rice evenly on top of the nori and press the rice down firmly. Sprinkle on sesame seeds. Flip. Place sliced avocado, sliced cucumber, and a few tablespoons of the crab mixture horizontally on the seaweed. Roll the bamboo mat forward, pressing the ingredients firmly inside the cylinder-shaped sushi. Cut CA Roll - Cut the sushi roll into 8 uniform bite-size pieces. California Sushi Roll 🍣🥑� Whether it’s lunch, a quick snack, or party finger food, sushi always delivers. This fun, fresh roll is easy to make at home and even easier to love. Creamy, crunchy, and packed with flavour! Makes: 4 rolls Preparation Time : 10-15 minutes Rolling Time: 20-30 minutes  Ingredients: 750g – 800g cooked sushi rice (please refer to “how to make sushi rice”) 4 nori sheet (trimmed 2cm from an edge) Filling ingredients: 400 g Salmon, sliced 1 Avocado, stone removed and sliced ½ Cucumber, deseeded and cut into strips Tobiko or toasted sesame seeds for garnish Soy sauce to serve Wasabi to serve You will need: Bamboo Sushi mat Cling film (plastic wrap) Method: 1. Arrange all your fillings, nori sheets, and prepared sushi rice. Fill a small bowl with water and 1-2 TBSP of vinegar – use this to moisten your hands while handling the rice to prevent sticking.  2. Place a sheet of nori on your Bamboo mat. Lightly wet your hands and spread about 180g of sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving no gaps. Sprinkle a line of tobiko (or sesame seeds) across the center of the rice.  3. Cover the rice with a sheet of cling wrap. Gently place one hand on top, and with the other hand, slide it under the mat to flip the rice-side down. You should now have a base of bamboo mat, cling film, rice, and nori (in that order). 4. Place few strips of salmon, avocado, and cucumber across the nori near the edge close to you.  5. Lift the bottom edge of the mat up and over the filling, using your fingers to keep the ingredients in the place. As the rice meets the nori, gently press or squeeze to shape and form it. Pull the cling film and mat slightly back as you roll to avoid them getting caught inside.  6. Wet a sharp knife with water and cut the roll (still wrapped in cling film) into 8 pieces. Carefully remove the cling film and arrange on a serving plate. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi. #sushi #californiaroll #recipe #food #foodlover #japanesefood
