A new liquid biopsy test analysing circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) can indicate whether advanced breast cancer patients are likely to respond to specific therapies early in their treatment course. What if there were a way to prevent breast cancer? It may be closer than you think. I spoke with a patient from North Carolina who traveled to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio to take part in a groundbreaking study. Chase Johnson had triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive subtype with a recurrence rate as high as 75%. That is a big reason why it can be so deadly. The Cleveland Clinic and Anixa Biosciences are studying a series of shots designed to help prevent the cancer from coming back. Chase says it has been nearly five years, and her cancer has not returned, a milestone researchers have been hoping to see, since recurrence often happens within the first two years.
