Clevedon Court opens for the 2026 season this Wednesday 1st of April. It’s open Weds, Thurs, Sun and Bank Holiday Mondays only from 2pm until 5pm, with the fab team from @fawncoffee available from 1.30pm until closing. The house has a limited season each year as it is still occupied by members of the Elton family, famous with Clevedon for their longstanding history and contributions within the town. It’s a @nationaltrust property so tickets are required for both the 18th century terraced gardens and the 14th century Manor House (£6.50 garden only, £13 combined for adults, £3.25/£6.50 for children or free for NT members). The grounds are beautiful for picnicking in and children can run freely in the gardens, the house is beautiful inside and there’s usually a trail at Easter (not sure yet this year as still a few days til it opens!). It’s only 20 minutes from Bristol and parking is free, you’ll find Fawn located in the (free) carpark serving their speciality coffees. Alternatively there is a bus stop outside that’s on the Bristol to Clevedon route or it can be walked from Clevedon itself (I’ve done it with 30+ 5 year olds, terrifying but doable, approx 30 mins depending where you start). If you pop along in Bluebell season there’s a little meadow next to an outbuilding with a beautiful patch of them 💜 Have you been to Clevedon Court before? Save this 🗳️ for when you’re looking for a day out near Bristol, and don’t forget to follow me, @lizzie.eats.explores, for more tips on family friendly things to do and places to eat across the South West 👣

It’s early autumn in Cambridge!! 🍂🍁 Went for a walk around town centre today and captured these moody shots 🎥 the cloud added to the ambience and was nice to see a calmer version of Cambridge after the hectic summer Took today off after the long synchrotron experiments and travelling around from the wedding etc! Was nice to recouperate and sleep in for once! 😴 Privileged for this flexibility and I think it’s something I’ll miss about academia and PhD life!! #cambridgram #cambridge #phd #phdlife #phdjourney #cambridgeuniversity #visitcambridge #visitengland #autumn #autumnvibes🍁

Doncaster at risk: on researching the area I found the Conservation Area was at risk due to the condition of some of the buildings and being fragmented from the town. The church was built between 1854 and 1858 by the world-renowned architect Sir George Gilbert Scott who is also famed for designing St. Pancras Station and the Albert Memorial in London. The Clergy House, presently known as “Church House”, behind the church was built in 1786. This Grade II listed building is two storeys high with rendered stone walls and slate roof. It is the oldest complete building in the Area. The former Technical College was built in 1913 and designed jointly by two Leeds architects Schofield and Berry. It is typical of the Edwardian neoclassical style. It is an elaborate building echoing the “Wrenaissance” movement (revived in the Edwardian period following the principles and elements of Wren’s baroque architecture). The college is built from brick with stone dressings. The 1930 extension uses the same materials but in a more contemporary, simplistic style. The Saddlery, now a shop but previously a public house was formally known as ‘The Old Crown’, was rebuilt in 1902 replacing an earlier inn of 1795. It complements the Clergy House through its mimicking of certain architectural details #doncasterbuildings #doncasterminster

TOMORROW IS WORLD HERITAGE DAY Our very own Lewis Bundock, one of our Senior Cost Managers…..who knew? Not many until now! Lewis had the honour to do fine stonework repairs on a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Canterbury Cathedral. We can honestly say we have a World Champion in our midst Go, Lewis! Go gargoyles! So this Saturday 18th April, World Heritage Day, why not visit one of the 18 World Heritage Sites that we have in Britain? Click the link below. Incidentally, the word gargoyle stems from the Old French word ‘gargouille’, meaning ‘throat’, which derives from the Latin ‘gargulio’, the gurgling sound of water. AND, the non-rainwater channelling carved images are called ‘groteques’ and not gargoyles…. Who told you we never taught you anything!!? https://lnkd.in/e6tzpbcY #UNESCO
