Spring is in the air and this little cutie is serving major picnic chic 🧺 ☀️ Think draped napkin meets dreamy ring dish - and yes, it’s as fun to make as it looks. How I made my Precious. So many ways to make a ceramic ring! I also tried extruding the coils and cutting them from slab. But sometimes I roll out coils and flatten them:) there are also different ways you can smoosh them to create texture. Fun! I leave one side unglazed, so you can see me polishing the rings with a dremel tool after firing.

Sometimes you just gotta flip it 🫶🏼 Loved bringing this idea to life to make a cushion-like trinket dish. Here’s how to do it: Roll your slab 8mm thick (slightly thicker than your typical plate/dish to account for the extra moulding and to avoid cracking). Use our Blate Pottery Forms to make your dish (I used the 15cm here), then flip it and gently make the indentation using a soft rib and spiral out so the transition is nice and smooth. Repeat a few times. Tidy the bottom rim and dry slowly before firing and glaze firing. I love making ring dishes for many reasons, but mostly because they often become a part of someone’s love story ♥️ My favorite happened over the summer when an 11 year old saw one of my designs that said “ILY” and asked their mom if they could buy it for their girlfriend 😭 the mom gently asked if they felt that way and they shyly nodded “yes”. In that moment I felt so grateful to be a tiny part of their childhood and this brand new love story taking place 🎀
