I’ve always preferred a chamfer finish for my full coverage crown preparations. It works well with zirconia, metal, and lithium disilicate (LiDiSi) crowns. However, when it comes to PFM crowns, a chamfer alone may be insufficient, as they typically require a shoulder margin for optimal porcelain and metal thickness cervically. To balance strength with conservation, I usually modify the crown design—opting for a PFM with a 360-degree metal collar. This approach allows me to preserve more tooth structure cervically while still achieving a reliable ferrule effect. Alternatively, vertical preparations (verti-preps) can be a great option when the goal is to conserve cervical tooth structure, especially in cases where minimal reduction is key. #ToothPreparation #PFMCrown #CrownPrep #ChamferFinish #VerticalPreparation #VertiPrep #BiomimeticDentistry #MinimalPrep #RestorativeDentistry #DentalEducation #ToothConservation #Prosthodontics #DentalTips #ClinicalDentistry #FullCoverageCrown #DentalInstagram #DentistryInIndia #KotaDentist #DrGeet

Crown failure often starts at the finishing line. In this 60-second breakdown, we cover 5 essential crown margin types and the correct diamond bur to use for each: • Chamfer margin • Shoulder margin • Radial shoulder • Shoulder with bevel • Knife-edge margin Choosing the correct margin design and diamond bur improves ceramic strength, marginal adaptation, and long-term crown success. Finishing line/restoration margin design!! • Crown margins play a critical role in determining the long term-viability of not only the restoration itself but also the adjacent supporting tissues. Thought must be given therefore to designing and creating appropriate finishing lines depending on the restorative material being used, the desired aesthetic outcome, occlusal considerations and the condition of the underlying tooth structure. #dental #dentaltechnician #stomatology #dentistry #dentistrymyworld #orofacial #endodontics #endo #surgery #lefort #lefort1osteotomy #orofacial #maxillofacialsurgery #orthopedic #orthstom #shoulder #chamfer #teeth

Zirconia Crown Tooth Preparation 1. Occlusal Reduction 1.0 – 1.5 mm (uniform reduction) Ensure enough space for strength and esthetics. 2. Axial Reduction 1 – 1.5 mm Smooth, continuous taper (~6°) Preserve as much tooth structure as possible. 3. Finish Line (Margin) Rounded shoulder or deep chamfer Width: 0.6 – 1 mm Smooth and continuous to prevent stress points. Subgingival or supragingival depending on esthetics and clinical situation. 4. Internal Line Angles Rounded to reduce stress concentrations and prevent zirconia fractures. 5. Additional Tips ✔ Avoid sharp edges — zirconia is strong but can be prone to fracture from stress points. ✔ Ensure clear margins for accurate scanning or impressions. ✔ Avoid undercuts to ensure crown seating. #ZirconiaCrown #ToothPreparation #CrownPrep #ZirconiaRestoration #DentalCrown #RestorativeDentistry #FixedProsthodontics #DentalEducation #DentalLearning #DentalTips #FutureDentist #DentalStudents #ToothPrep101 #CrownPreparation Esthetic & Clinical Work #SmileDesign #EstheticDentistry #DigitalDentistry #CADCAMDentistry #PrecisionDentistry #MinimallyInvasiveDentistry #HappyDentistCare #DentistLife #DentalReels #DentalInspiration #ClinicVibes #DentistryWorld #DentalCommunity

Canine PFM Crown Preparation — Important Points & Measurements • Axial reduction: 1.0–1.2 mm (uniform) • Incisal reduction: 1.5–2.0 mm (functional cusp bevel mandatory) • Margin type: Chamfer / Heavy chamfer and Shoulder (PFM & zirconia friendly) • Margin width: 0.8–1.2 mm • Total occlusal convergence: 6–10° • Finish line position: Supragingival preferred (esthetic demand → equigingival) • Line angles: Rounded (avoid sharp edges) • Functional cusp bevel: Well-defined, not sharp (prevents metal/ceramic perforation) • Path of insertion: Single, smooth draw • Surface finish: Smooth, well-tapered walls ✨ Key tip: Canine is an esthetic + functional tooth → balance strength, guidance, and esthetics.

⭕️⭕️Zirconia crown preparation for anterior teeth: Key Preparation Steps & Measurements: 1️⃣Clearance: Create a minimum of 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm of space, or clearance, to accommodate the crown’s thickness. 2️⃣ Incisal Reduction: Reduce the incisal edge by 1.8 mm to 2.0 mm. 3️⃣Gingival Margin: Create a continuous circumferential chamfer with a gingival reduction of at least 0.5 mm. 4️⃣Preparation Angle: Aim for a 5-10° horizontal and vertical angle for the preparation. 5️⃣Lingual Concavity: Shape the lingual (tongue-side) surface into a concave form. 6️⃣Rounded Edges: Use a diamond bur to round the incisal edges. 7️⃣Rounded Concave Lingual Surface: Ensure the lingual surface has a rounded, concave shape. #fyp #dentist #explorepage #dentistry #dentistrylife #explore #dental #fypage #followforfollow #dentistryworld

That one Emax fracture changed how I see finish lines forever. 📌 FIRST - Share this post with your friend before they repeat this mistake. 📌 SECOND - Comment “FL” and I’ll DM you a quick tutorial on margin selection for every crown material. Here’s the truth: 👉 Monolithic Zirconia - light chamfer for strength with minimal reduction. 👉 Layered Zirconia - radial shoulder provides support for veneering porcelain. 👉 Emax - being brittle needs - heavy chamfer or radial shoulder minimizes internal stress & cracks. Follow manufacturer’s guidelines, not assumptions. Finish-line questions are hot viva favorites - and examiners notice your understanding of the concept. 📌 Comment "FL" for free video lesson on "Finish lines". 📌 Share this with your prostho partner - because the right finish line saves crowns and marks.
