step-by-step outline for crown preparation of a maxillary central incisor (usually for all-ceramic or PFM crown): 1. Labial Reduction Depth-cut grooves (1.0–1.2 mm) placed with a round-end tapered diamond. Uniform reduction following the natural contour of the labial surface. Smooth reduction without sharp angles. 2. Incisal Reduction Depth-cut grooves of 1.5–2.0 mm (depending on material). Reduce incisal edge in a single plane, maintaining the natural incisal form. 3. Lingual Reduction Cingulum reduction about 1.0–1.2 mm for all-ceramic / metal-ceramic crowns. Axial reduction with clearance for opposing tooth (≈1.0–1.5 mm). Lingual fossa shaped with a concave reduction for proper thickness. 4. Proximal Reduction Break proximal contacts with a thin tapered bur. Ensure smooth transition between labial and lingual reductions. 5. Finish Line Circumferential shoulder (1.0–1.2 mm, rounded internal angle) for all-ceramic. Can be chamfer (0.5–1.0 mm) if PFM crown. Located slightly supragingival or equigingival (unless esthetics demand subgingival). 6. Finishing Round all line angles (avoids stress concentration in ceramic). Smooth, continuous margin. Ensure adequate taper (6° total convergence ideally). ✅ Key reductions for maxillary central incisor crown prep: Labial: 1.0–1.2 mm Incisal: 1.5–2.0 mm Lingual: 1.0–1.5 mm Margin: 1.0–1.2 mm shoulder/chamfer #fyp #exploremore #foryoupage #viralreels #explorepage #trendingreels #foryoupage #digitalmonarch #instaviews #reelviews #reelitfeelit #boostmyreels #growoninstagram #dailygrow #reachmorepeople #digitalmonarch #dentistry #new #dentistlife #dentalhealth #dentalcare #medicine #restoration #likesforlike #likesforlike #comment #follow4like #famous #advance #oralhealth #healthjourney

Note anatomical reduction, round internal line angles and hollow chamfer to allow optimal margin definition for both ceramic and composite restorations. Round burs and hemispherical oscillating tips are essential tools. The dilemma of overlay preparation will be discussed in my next post.

step-by-step guide for Class II cavity preparation on a premolar 🦷 Stay tuned for part 2 1. Patient & Tooth Preparation • Check occlusion and isolation (rubber dam if possible). • Examine contact and determine whether it’s mesial or distal surface involvement. • Clean the tooth with pumice to remove plaque and debris. ⸻ 2. Initial Outline Form • Use a #245 or #330 bur (high-speed handpiece). • Start on the occlusal surface and extend along the central groove. • Depth: about 1.5–2.0 mm (0.5 mm into dentin). • Maintain a uniform depth and rounded internal angles. ⸻ 3. Extension Toward Proximal Surface • Extend the occlusal part toward the proximal marginal ridge until it just breaks contact with the adjacent tooth. • Keep the bur parallel to the long axis of the tooth. • Break the contact area carefully (use thin bur or GMT). Clinical tip: Use an enamel hatchet or GMT to remove unsupported enamel rods and refine the proximal box walls. ⸻ 4. Proximal Box Formation • Drop the bur vertically to create the gingival floor and axial wall. • Gingival floor should be flat and perpendicular to the long axis. • Axial wall follows the external contour of the tooth (convex). • Gingival clearance: 0.5 mm beyond the contact. • Buccal and lingual walls should slightly diverge occlusally. #GingivalMarginTrimmer #GMTinstrument #DentalInstruments #OperativeDentistry #CavityPreparation #Class2Preparation #ToothRestoration #DentalProcedure #DentalAnatomy #DentalStudentLife #BDSstudents #DentistryEducation #DentalLearning #DentalConcepts #ToothPreparation #DentalTips

Anterior Tooth Preparation for Zirconia Crown 1. Reduction: • Labial: 1.0–1.2 mm (two planes) • Incisal: 1.5–2.0 mm • Lingual: 1.0–1.5 mm • Proximal: Break contact gently 2. Finish Line: • Type: Deep chamfer or rounded shoulder • Width: 0.8–1.0 mm 3. Convergence: • Total taper: 6–10° 4. Finishing: • Smooth all surfaces • Round internal angles • Remove sharp edges 5. Cementation: • Monolithic zirconia: Conventional cement • Layered zirconia: Adhesive resin cement + MDP primer ⚠️ Avoid: • Over-reduction • Sharp internal angles • Insufficient incisal clearance #تجميل #تجميل_أسنان #طب_اسنان #design #dental

I’ve always preferred a chamfer finish for my full coverage crown preparations. It works well with zirconia, metal, and lithium disilicate (LiDiSi) crowns. However, when it comes to PFM crowns, a chamfer alone may be insufficient, as they typically require a shoulder margin for optimal porcelain and metal thickness cervically. To balance strength with conservation, I usually modify the crown design—opting for a PFM with a 360-degree metal collar. This approach allows me to preserve more tooth structure cervically while still achieving a reliable ferrule effect. Alternatively, vertical preparations (verti-preps) can be a great option when the goal is to conserve cervical tooth structure, especially in cases where minimal reduction is key. #ToothPreparation #PFMCrown #CrownPrep #ChamferFinish #VerticalPreparation #VertiPrep #BiomimeticDentistry #MinimalPrep #RestorativeDentistry #DentalEducation #ToothConservation #Prosthodontics #DentalTips #ClinicalDentistry #FullCoverageCrown #DentalInstagram #DentistryInIndia #KotaDentist #DrGeet

⭕️⭕️Zirconia crown preparation for anterior teeth: Key Preparation Steps & Measurements: 1️⃣Clearance: Create a minimum of 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm of space, or clearance, to accommodate the crown’s thickness. 2️⃣ Incisal Reduction: Reduce the incisal edge by 1.8 mm to 2.0 mm. 3️⃣Gingival Margin: Create a continuous circumferential chamfer with a gingival reduction of at least 0.5 mm. 4️⃣Preparation Angle: Aim for a 5-10° horizontal and vertical angle for the preparation. 5️⃣Lingual Concavity: Shape the lingual (tongue-side) surface into a concave form. 6️⃣Rounded Edges: Use a diamond bur to round the incisal edges. 7️⃣Rounded Concave Lingual Surface: Ensure the lingual surface has a rounded, concave shape. #fyp #dentist #explorepage #dentistry #dentistrylife #explore #dental #fypage #followforfollow #dentistryworld
