For many, these stalls are not just convenient but necessary.” During a recent shopping trip, we spent over 30 minutes waiting for an accessible changing room, only to see a mom and daughter emerge pulling out a shopping cart. As you can imagine, Hadley was very frustrated. I tried to remind her that they were there first and that just because it didn’t look like they needed the stall, they might have had a reason. Their guilt-ridden reactions and apologies once they saw Hadley waiting definitely left her questioning their need.🤷‍♀️ Hadley then asked, “Mom, why can’t every stall be accessible? It would be so much better.” I completely agree with Hadley and dream of a world with more accessible options! Hadley has experienced this inconvenience countless times, and in countless places. Regrettably, I was also guilty of using these stalls without thinking before Hadley was born. We’re not suggesting that you never use the accessible stall, but rather, we ask for courtesy. If you’ve waited in line and the accessible stall is the only option, feel free to use it. However, if other stalls are available, please choose those whenever possible. You never know when someone who relies on the accessible stall will need and depend on it!
