How to process chickens in front of your children First, if your child has never been around chicken processing, it will most likely be traumatizing for them at first. You do NEED to prepare them for what is to come! That looks like having conversations before even purchasing your birds. Talk to them about what you’re going to do before you start. Explain to them that you’re going to raise them in your yard. Explain to them that they will be your dinner. Show them chicken you’re eating and explain that this is their purpose. Talk about it OFTEN when you go out to care for your chickens. Talk about processing day and watch videos on it! (We’ve got tons of videos and processing day in highlights and even more in depth in our online course) Prepare your children for the day and let them watch and be involved as much or as little as they want. My kids have been around this since birth so it’s not new to them and they run around and play and come and help and then go play so it’s never forced on them but the exposure to it will help them as they learn about where their food comes from. I know it can be intimidating but I promise they will be okay with it and they will learn some amazing skills as well! Meat bird processing day is the day every beginner worries about. Raising a chicken for 8 weeks is easy but taking its life and going through the whole process can be a daunting idea. Luckily, this is not my first time so I knew what to expect but I am in no way shape or form a pro. If you find out the age of the chicken meat you’ve been eating, you’ll be shocked!   Unfortunately, most chicken these days are only 6 WEEKS old before they are processed and land in your shopping cart (yes even organic). 😬   The standard for “growing” chickens for market used to take between 4-12 months, but todays “super chickens” fatten up and are ready for slaughter in as little as 42 days 😫.   So what does this all mean? This is NOT normal meat! ❌ These chickens are growing so fast that they’re deformed, inflamed, and the meat isn’t healthy. ⚠️   The chickens are being force-fed likely GMO grains, which are bioaccumulating pesticides, herbicides, and glyphosate in the muscle, fat and organs.😷   The best way to avoid this type of meat?
