His name was associated with his trademark instrument, the Rickenbacker 4001 (British model RM1999). 𝙔𝙚𝙨 is an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968 by singer Jon Anderson and bassist Chris Squire. Known for their complex compositions, virtuosic musicianship, and mystical lyrics, Yes became one of the pioneers of progressive rock! Their early lineup stabilized with guitarist Steve Howe and keyboardist Rick Wakeman, and drummer Bill Bruford. Albums like Fragile (1971) and Close to the Edge (1972) are considered landmarks of the genre. They reached commercial success with hits like "Roundabout" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart" (1983), the latter during a more pop-oriented phase with guitarist Trevor Rabin. Yes underwent many lineup changes over the decades, with numerous reunions and offshoot projects. Despite these shifts, the band continued touring and recording into the 21st century. 🎸 Nacía una de las leyendas en el bajo del rock progresivo, fundador de Yes, el legendario Chris Squire 🎸 Un 4 de marzo de 1948, nacía en Kingsbury, cercano a Londres, Chris Squire. De pequeño fue a coro de Iglesia, pero después fue expulsado, con grandes técnicas vocales ya comenzaría armar su camino. Fue influenciado por Paul McCartney y John Eintwstle para tocar bajo, además de recibir influencias de bandas como The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Sly and the Family Stone. Absorbía de todo tipo de música desde el rythim and blues y lo que estaba pasando en Inglaterra. Formó la banda Mabel´s Greer Toyshop, pero tras conocer a The Syn, conoció a Jon Anderson, eso lo hizo iniciar una gran amistad para 1968 para formar una de las angulares bandas de rock progresivo llamada Yes. Keith Emerson estuvo a punto de invitarlo al power trío que estaba formando, pero rechazó el llamado, ya que no se veía bien como cantante principal, prefería hacer armonías. En Yes, participó de todas sus encarnaciones desde 1968 hasta 2014, pasando por los destacados discos como "Fragile", "Close to the Edge", "Tales From Topographic Oceans", "Relayer", "Going For the One", "Drama" como el exitoso "90125". En 1975, debutó con su primer disco solista "Fish Out of the Water" junto a grandes músicos como Mel Collins, Patrick Moraz y Bill Bruford. En honor a sus años en la iglesia, hizo su primer disco de villancicos mezclado con progresivo llamado "Swiss Choir" lanzado en 2007. Estuvo a punto de ser formar la banda "XYZ" junto a su partner de toda la vida, Alan White y el guitarrista de Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page. Yes performing “Roundabout” Live at the Rainbow Theatre in London UK⁣ in December of ’72 ⁣⁣ In a nutshell, this song was the band’s breakthrough hit and it came at a time when they weren’t looking for a hit. When released as a single, the song climbed to #13 on the US Hot 100. From a musical standpoint, Steve Howe recalled that the song was originally “a guitar instrumental suite” and had a basic outline worked out when he first developed it. “All the ingredients are there—all that’s missing is the song. “Roundabout” was a bit like that; there was a structure, a melody, and a few lines.” ⁣ ⁣ Originally, the song comprised of Steve playing the guitar parts on a 1953 Martin 00-18, however, he wanted a more dramatic opening and this promoted Rick Wakeman to play a note on the piano that was recorded and played backward, creating an effect that Howe described “as if it’s rushing towards you”. What he did was play the lowest E note on his grand piano with the E an octave higher which gave it “a fatter feel”. Bassist, Chris Squire played his bass guitar parts with an overdub that was one octave higher using Howe’s Gibson ES-150 electric guitar and mixed with his bass track. ⁣ ⁣ In an effort to compliment Squire’s playing, Wakeman played arpeggios on his Hammond C3 organ on his right hand while playing Squire’s bass parts with his left. Un día como hoy, 04 de marzo de 1948. Nace Chris Squire en Kingsbury, Londres, Reino Unido. Fue el bajista y vocalista de coros del grupo de rock progresivo Yes, y fue el único miembro del grupo que aparece en todos los álbumes editado por el grupo (miembro fundador con Jon Anderson quien aparece en todos menos en uno). Rrecibió sus primeras instrucciones musicales en un coro de iglesia cuando era pequeño. En 1964, lo suspendieron en la escuela por tener el pelo largo y nunca más retornó. Las primeras influencias de Squire fueron diversas, abarcando desde la música coral y de la iglesia hasta el sonido de Merseybeat de principios de los 60. Los primeros grupos musicales de Squire fueron Syn, y posteriormente Mabel Greer's Toyshop, que le servirían para introducirlo junto con la colaboración de Peter Banks y Jon Anderson en los inicios de Yes. Yes editó su primera grabación en 1969, y aunque la banda ha hecho muchos cambios en sus integrantes a través de los años, han continuado grabando y haciendo giras por más de 30 años. Squire fue el único miembro que se mantuvo en la formación desde los principios del grupo.
